About The Position

The St. Louis Jewish Community Center is seeking a shared full-time position between its Youth Theatre program and the New Jewish Theatre. This position will serve as the J’s Youth Theatre Artistic Producer (approximately 30 hours/wk), responsible for all aspects of producing two Broadway KIDS, and 2 Broadway JR. productions each calendar year, as well as hiring staff and facilitating the execution of four 2-week Youth Theatre Summer Camps for the J’s Day Camps. This position will also serve as New Jewish Theatre’s Production Manager (approximately 10 hours/wk), assisting with season planning and scheduling, budgeting, contracting designers and technicians, and monitoring the progress of production elements while maintaining high standards for all productions. Exact work hours will vary based on the production schedule and individual show needs.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Theatre Production or related field.
  • Experience with Project Management.
  • General understanding of budgets.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Candidate must be able to work independently and create self-imposed deadlines.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings such as ground plans and light plots.
  • Enjoys and works well with children.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and organize.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years experience in arts’ education preferred.
  • Experience working in Production in a professional theatre environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of One Drive, Dropbox and/or Google Drive is a plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience with St. Louis theatre community is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and supervise all staff for Youth Theatre.
  • Review and maintain timecards for all staff.
  • Create, implement, and staff Youth Theatre Programs in the Fall, Spring and Summer for children K-9th grade including room bookings and performance spaces.
  • Ensure program offerings are current and meet community needs. Entails selecting, ordering, and producing plays.
  • Schedule and supervise rehearsals and performances negotiating conflicts and any disciplinary issues
  • Select scripts for Youth Theatre program and obtain performance rights or supervise the commission of new works.
  • Facilitate communication between staff including production meetings, scheduling, deadlines, and collaboration issues.
  • Coordinate set, sound, and lighting design with New Jewish Theatre Technical Director and Youth Theatre production staff to stay within budget and creatively portray the story using suggestive set pieces and projection techniques.
  • Work with costumer and parents to use stock costumes minimizing new purchases.
  • Manage House during performances and organize all aspects of House Management including tickets, playbills, concessions, fundraisers, and volunteers.
  • Facilitate all necessary communication with parents including registration materials, order forms for playbill advertising, photos and performance digital links, rehearsal information and all other correspondence and performance materials.
  • Work with Box Office Manager to process all ticket sales including online and at door sales.
  • Monitor and organize registrations and rosters of Youth Theatre participants.
  • Together with the Marketing Department, develop marketing strategy and campaign materials for Youth Theatre.
  • Serve as Youth Theatre budget manager.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Show Management Assist with hiring and contracting designers and technical staff.
  • Schedule and lead design and production meetings for each play.
  • Attend technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals, helping to facilitate the technical process as needed.
  • Coordinate post-rehearsal production meetings and arrange time for designers to do notes in space as necessary.
  • Communicate needed show information to House Manager, i.e., runtime, use of fog, strobe lights, intermission length, etc.
  • Manage New Jewish Theatre’s file sharing to make sure design materials and photography are being shared with the appropriate people.
  • Check-in with designers and department heads to make sure progress is being made and aid when necessary.
  • Create and maintain contact sheets for each production.
  • Distribute scripts to designers and actors as needed.
  • Budget and Equipment Management Work with New Jewish Theatre Artistic Director to set appropriate budgets for designers, equipment, materials and labor, as well as monitor department expenses to ensure areas are within their budget.
  • Request cash budget advances for designers and technicians as necessary and reconcile expenses.
  • Maintain stock of general theatre supplies, including but not limited to first aid equipment, coffee and tea, etc.
  • Facilities Coordinate with J Buildings and Grounds staff to schedule regular cleanings of theatre and dressing rooms.
  • Make sure theatre space is cleaned and reset following close of production.
  • Maintain incident reporting and safety standards according to J protocols.
  • Ensure consistent training for production staff (board ops, stagehands, etc.) to make sure they are aware of NJT and J policies and procedures.
  • Create room reservations as needed when other parts of the J facility are required for rehearsals, work hours, or special events.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
