About The Position

If you love climbing, enjoy working with kids, and believe in the power of positive mentorship, this is your summer role. As a Youth Summer Camp Climbing Instructor at The Front, you'll help young climbers build confidence, teamwork, and skills-both on and off the wall. The Front Climbing Club creates innovative spaces that bring people together through movement, challenge, and community, aiming to be a place where people grow, connect, and feel like they belong. Their youth programs are rooted in inclusion, encouragement, and lifelong participation in climbing and outdoor recreation. As a Youth Summer Camp Climbing Instructor, you'll work with campers ages 6–13 in a fun, structured, and safety-focused environment. This is a seasonal, hourly role ($17/hr) running May through August, with morning and afternoon shifts available at their Salt Lake City, Ogden, and South Main locations. You'll play a key leadership role in creating memorable summer experiences for kids of all abilities.

Requirements

  • Love working with kids and are excited to mentor youth ages 6–13
  • Have at least one year of climbing experience and can top-rope belay
  • Bring high energy, patience, and a positive attitude to every interaction
  • Have 5 years of combined professional, educational, or trade experience, including at least 1 year working with or coaching youth
  • Are comfortable staying active, demonstrating climbing movements, and lifting up to 25 lbs
  • Take feedback well and enjoy growing as an instructor and teammate
  • Are willing to complete required certifications (CWI, CPR/First Aid, SafeSport-training or reimbursement provided)
  • Value customer care, clear communication, and creating welcoming experiences for everyone

Responsibilities

  • Lead safe, engaging rock climbing sessions for youth campers of varying ages and skill levels
  • Serve as a positive role model-learning campers' names, encouraging teamwork, and building confidence
  • Teach and demonstrate proper climbing techniques, belaying, and equipment use
  • Supervise groups on and off the wall, addressing unsafe behavior and maintaining a supportive environment
  • Design and run age-appropriate activities that balance fun, learning, and structure
  • Monitor climbing areas to ensure safety while being mindful of members and shared spaces
  • Help maintain organized gear and activity areas
  • Collaborate closely with fellow instructors and Youth Programs leadership to support smooth camp operations
