The IRC in Baltimore was established in 1999 and currently serves over 2,500 immigrants and refugees per year. Scope of Work The Youth Success Specialist Intern supports the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Youth Program by assisting in the delivery of academic, social-emotional, and enrichment services for refugee and immigrant youth through 10 weeks mentorships and tutoring cohorts as well as field trips. The intern works closely with staff to help students build the skills needed to succeed in school and in their new community. Reports To Youth Success Specialist or Youth Services Coordinator Learning Objectives Learn about the refugee resettlement process in the U.S., and specifically in Maryland. Learn about the school registration process for refugee students in local public schools. Learn how to provide sensitive support to students, parents/guardians, and schools.

Requirements

  • Prior experience and/or interest working with refugees and immigrants preferred.
  • Prior experience and/or interest in case management, social work or education preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced and global environment.
  • Flexible and reliable, with outstanding attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Zoom and Canva).
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Availability on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM is required

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of the local client base is desired.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable access to a vehicle with current insurance and the ability to travel regularly throughout Baltimore strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the facilitation of virtual tutoring and mentoring sessions via Zoom.
  • Support outreach, scheduling, and communication with youth participants and volunteer mentors/tutors
  • Monitor virtual sessions to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all participants
  • Help develop and share educational resources, activities, and content aligned with program goals
  • Track attendance and assist with basic data entry and documentation for program evaluation
  • Collaborate with the Youth Success Specialist to identify and respond to the needs of youth participants
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all organizational policies and procedures regarding youth safety and conduct

Benefits

  • Spring 2026 interns are eligible for per diem reimbursement at the rate of $15 per day (defined as 7.5 hours) to offset the costs of food and travel of the internship. Interns may also be reimbursed for mileage driven for any approved activities (based on round-trip mileage from the IRC office).
