About The Position

The Youth Sports Coordinator – The position plays an important supporting role in delivering high quality youth sports experiences for families in YMCA of Superior California region. This position directly supports the Sports Director and Yolo Branch Manager, helping strengthen and expand our local sports programs while taking on essential responsibilities that reduce the operational load on the Association Sports Director. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in sports management, recreation operations, coaching and youth development. Yolo YMCA sports, including basketball, soccer, flag football, and seasonal community-driven offerings provide an energetic, hands-on environment for individuals who want to gain real experience in the sports field. If you’re excited about helping young athletes grow, building community through sports, and working alongside experienced YMCA sports leaders, this role offers an engaging and meaningful path into the field of sports management. This position is a part-time position working a maximum of 16 hours a week out of the Yolo County YMCA. Hours include Saturdays. Requirements

  • College Units required. Degree in Recreation, Sports Management or similar preferred.
  • At least 19 years of age.
  • Minimum 2 Years coaching/refereeing experience in team sports (basketball, Soccer, flag football, etc.)
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days ofhire date
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriateprogram activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authenticrelationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Some previous experience working with children.
  • Computer skills
  • Bilingual, Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and oversee all youth and adult sports leagues, clinics, tournaments, and camps.
  • Develop seasonal calendars, registration timelines, and program schedules (practices, games, facilities).
  • Assist with team formation and volunteer coach placement.
  • Maintain program quality in alignment with YMCA standards; create and distribute surveys.
  • Occasionally travel to other branches to offer support and training.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteer coaches.
  • Lead coach meetings and provide resources such as practice plans and league rules.
  • Ensure volunteer compliance with YMCA safety and policy requirements.
  • Serve as a staff coach when volunteer coverage is unavailable.
  • Schedule and supervise sports assistants and referees.
  • Recruit, interview, and help hire part-time sports staff.
  • Communicate rules, responsibilities, and performance expectations.
  • Provide training, feedback, and corrective action; support ongoing staff development.
  • Send regular program updates via email, SMS, and newsletters.
  • Respond to parent inquiries with professionalism and empathy.
  • Manage player movement requests, refunds, and special accommodations.
  • Oversee distribution, tracking, and return of sports equipment.
  • Manage jersey ordering and uniform design transitions.
  • Write program descriptions for websites, flyers, and newsletters.
  • Promote leagues, camps, tournaments, and special events.
  • Create social media graphics and stories to drive engagement.
  • Track registrations, payments, and outstanding balances.
  • Support families through the Y-Assist financial assistance process.
  • Process refunds and program credits; maintain accurate program and volunteer records.
  • Assist with program budgeting.
  • Plan and implement events such as Shoot-A-Thons, picture days, and all-star games.
  • Support annual campaign fundraising efforts.
  • Coordinate sponsorship outreach with local businesses and partners.
  • Uphold YMCA sports policies, safety standards, and behavior expectations.
  • Address conduct issues and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Partner with Membership, Wellness, Facilities, and Marketing departments.
  • Create training materials and guides for front desk and member services staff.
  • Train staff on sports program details and registration processes.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with cities, schools, community groups, and organizations (e.g.,Sacramento Kings).
  • Coordinate collaborative events, sponsorships, and outreach initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external partners.
