About The Position

Provide direct supervision to children in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes youth development and member engagement in accordance with the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma/GED; some college preferred.
  • Previous demonstrated experience working with children and diverse populations.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, camping, music, skits, sports, aquatics, and/or recreational games.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, Communicable Disease and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, lead and participate in a range of activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values. This includes all classes, practices, games and game area is prepared and cleaned as needed.
  • Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
  • Answers questions from participants and parents to support them in achieving their goals related to youth development.
  • Maintains working knowledge of sports/activity, and trends to provide effective information and support to participants.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents, helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and timely program records including but not limited to sports, programs, schedules and assists participants and parents as needed. This includes officiating as needed.
  • Adhere to program standards including, but not limited to safety and cleanliness.
  • Follow all applicable policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Maintain positive relations with parents and other staff. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Assist in supervision of volunteers involved in sport or activity.
  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Participates in all required management training.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
