About The Position

The Youth Services Program Manager - Beaverdam leads Out-of-School Time (OST) program operations and year-round community programming at the YMCA’s Beaverdam site. This is a program-heavy leadership role set on 10 acres of outdoor learning space – including a bouldering wall, vegetable garden, and wood – that demands someone equally comfortable running a high-enrollment daily after school and camp program and designing hands-on outdoor experiences for children, families, and the broader community. The Beaverdam Manager supervises frontline program staff, manages weekend and evening community programming throughout the year, and works directly with participants, families, school partners, and community organizations to ensure the site delivers consistent, high-quality programming aligned with the YMCA mission.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience working with youth in an educational, recreational, or outdoor setting.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and running multi-faceted programs with high participant volume.
  • Ability to regularly drive YMCA mini-bus
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and priorities simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to supervise and motivate a frontline staff team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse audiences, including children, families, school staff, and community partners.
  • Comfort and competence working in outdoor environments across a range of weather and activity conditions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn program-specific software platforms.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass required background checks and clearances.
  • Must be able to stand and/or be active for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work in a variety of environments with fluctuations in weather
  • Must be able to clearly see, hear and speak
  • Must be able to solve, reason, make decisions, and use sound judgement when distracted by noise and activity

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in outdoor education, recreation, environmental education, youth development, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in outdoor programming, environmental education, or nature-based learning strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the Out-of-School Time program at the Beaverdam site.
  • Provide daily supervision and direct programming for a group of participants.
  • Supervise, schedule, and support frontline program staff, including ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance management.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to ensure all activities are planned and implemented in compliance with YMCA of Western North Carolina policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Create, complete, review, update, and maintain all required program records and documentation.
  • Coordinate with school administration, teachers, and community partners to implement programming that meets participant needs.
  • Monitor and promote participant recruitment to support optimal enrollment.
  • Follow established protocols to coordinate incident and emergency response.
  • Facilitate integration of the YMCA program and mission into community culture.
  • Utilize standard business software and hardware systems (Microsoft Office Suite, Daxko Operations and Attendance Tracker, laptops, smartphones, 2-way radios) to accomplish daily administrative and operational tasks.
  • Purchase and manage distribution of program supplies within budget.
  • Design, plan, and implement year-round community programming during evenings and weekends for children, youth, families, and community members.
  • Develop and lead outdoor education and recreation experiences that use the full range of the Beaverdam site, including the bouldering wall, garden, creek access, and woodland areas.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, schools, and local groups to expand program reach and relevance.
  • Plan and facilitate meaningful family and community engagement events on a regular basis.
  • Assess programming outcomes and adjust offerings based on participant needs, community interest, and organizational priorities.
  • Models inclusive behaviors and embraces all dimensions of diversity
  • Supports service line/department in actively working toward association-level objectives, as measured by identified goals/KPIs
  • Participates in the budgeting process within their service line/department and serves as a good steward of association resources
