About The Position

The Allen County Youth Services Center is seeking a proactive, skilled Maintenance Repair to help create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for the young people we serve. If you enjoy working with your hands, solving problems on the spot, and taking pride in the condition of a facility from the front lawn to the mechanical room, this role offers both purpose and variety. In this position, you'll work independently while being supported by an engaged leadership team. No two days look the same, you might be repairing HVAC units, maintaining secure door hardware, mowing grounds, troubleshooting electrical or plumbing issues, or helping prepare the facility for seasonal weather changes. Your contributions directly impact the safety, comfort, and daily experience of residents and staff. This is a full-time position Monday-Friday 7:30 A.M-4:00 P.M.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; post-secondary tech training preferred
  • 3+ years experience in building maintenance, facilities repair, or related trades
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and manage time effectively
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work professionally with staff and youth
  • Valid Driver's License (use of county vehicle required)
  • Experience using tools such as drills, sawzall, weed eater, zero-turn mower, log splitter, chop saw, pressure washer, shop-vac, and other maintenance equipment

Nice To Haves

  • HVAC I/II certifications preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the full facility-cleaning restrooms, carpets, windows, floors, hallways, and common areas
  • Perform mechanical and equipment repairs, including power tools, mowers, and other machinery
  • Support outdoor grounds care: mowing, trimming, snow removal, tree cleanup, and gardening
  • Troubleshoot plumbing issues and conduct repairs (toilets, sinks, drains, water lines)
  • Repair and maintain kitchen appliances, laundry equipment, and facility systems
  • Conduct HVAC maintenance and troubleshooting (HVAC I/II preferred)
  • Ensure building safety including locks, door hardware, lights, panic devices, and secure access points
  • Perform basic electrical repairs and routine inspections
  • Maintain curb appeal by keeping exterior areas clean, lit, and welcoming
  • Manage inventory, order supplies, and complete maintenance documentation
  • Other duties as assigned to support facility operations
