About The Position

The Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) is an official university-level research center at Texas State University. The TxSSC is tasked in Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code and the Governor’s Homeland Security Strategic Plan with key school safety initiatives and mandates. The TxSSC serves as the clearinghouse for the dissemination of safety and security information through research, training, and technical assistance for K-12 schools and junior colleges throughout the state of Texas. As a result, Texas has become a national leader in school safety practices and is relied upon for assistance and guidance from jurisdictions throughout the nation. The Youth School Safety Senior Specialist will report directly to the Youth Initiatives Coordinator and is a part of the Youth and Community Initiatives Division within the Texas School Safety Center at Texas State University. The Senior Specialist will serve as the team lead for the Youth School Safety Program and will be known as the Youth School Safety Program Lead. This position will work closely with the Youth Initiatives Coordinator to advance programmatic work to support the planning, development, coordination, and implementation of the statewide Youth School Safety Program and its branded youth movement. This position requires the ability to multi-task, shift priorities, and work independently to move tasks forward. This position performs functions such as serving as project lead, coordinating and scheduling events, assigning tasks, managing the work of others as well as serving as programmatic liaison and contact. This position DOES NOT directly supervise others. This position allows for considerable latitude for independent judgement, initiative, and action within the program.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, education, or a related field
  • Experience working with youth-led groups and/or youth empowerment programs
  • Experience working with middle school or high school-aged youth in a school setting
  • Demonstrated experience in managing programmatic budgets
