About The Position

Broughton Hospital is seeking a Youth Program Educational Assistant I (YPEA) for the second shift (3:00pm-11:30pm). This role involves implementing therapeutic programming, educational instruction, and leisure activities for co-ed adolescents aged 12-17. The YPEA is also responsible for behavioral observation, reporting, and documenting patient participation and responses to interventions. The position requires collaboration with patients, families, external stakeholders, and an interdisciplinary treatment team to address individual needs. Ideal candidates should maintain a professional demeanor, establish therapeutic rapport, and act as a mentor and role model. Broughton Hospital is one of three regional psychiatric hospitals under the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, providing care and support to individuals experiencing mental illness in the western thirty-seven counties of North Carolina.

Requirements

  • Ability to pass a State Bureau of Investigation Criminal History Check
  • Complete and pass BLS/CPR training and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training during orientation
  • Designated as Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events
  • Flexibility to work holidays and other shifts to meet facility needs
  • Associate’s degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CPR certification and listing as a Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation required prior to providing direct patient care
  • Adhere to the facility's Vaccination Policy

Nice To Haves

  • Current Nurse Aide I listing
  • Two (2) years’ experience working as a CNA with at least 1 (1) year experience working with an adolescent population (ages 12-17)
  • Experience in developing and/or facilitating groups/activities
  • Documented working knowledge of behavior management programs (ie: points/rewards systems)
  • Experience responding to crisis situations (ie: medical or psychiatric emergencies)

  • Perform behavioral observation, reporting, and documentation of participation and responses to interventions
  • Work in collaboration with patients, families, external stakeholders, and an interdisciplinary treatment team to identify and meet individual needs of the population served
