About The Position

The Youth & Family Programs Associate oversees a broad range of programs for youth and family audiences. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Education the Education Associate will develop, implement, and evaluate engaging and innovative programs and educational resources based on the museum’s permanent collection and a rotating schedule of special exhibitions.

Requirements

  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for youth & family audiences in a museum, cultural institution, school, or community setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate art making activities and gallery experiences for K-12 and multigenerational audiences.
  • Strong teaching and facilitation skills, with the ability to foster inclusive, inquiry-based learning environments.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, including program planning, logistics, scheduling, and materials preparation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience creating educational resources and interpretive content for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow projects through.
  • Commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and creating welcoming experiences for all visitors.
  • College degree in Visual Arts, Art Education, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered
  • Teaching experience required. Must be comfortable teaching art to groups of K-12 students.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Comfortable working collaboratively within a team environment as well as independently
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with or mentoring volunteers, teens, or youth participants preferred.
  • Familiar with wide range of art media and processes is a plus.
  • Interest in museums, arts, culture, or nonprofit work is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Implement, and evaluate Youth & Family Programs such as Family Day, James Playdates, and Family Open Studio. These programs include gallery experiences, live performances, demonstrations, and art making activities.
  • Manage all aspects of the museum’s Summer and Spring Art Camp programs, including curriculum development, scheduling, staffing coordination, budget oversight, and materials preparation.
  • Coordinate and facilitate youth organization visits, including planning gallery tours and leading hands-on artmaking workshops for community partners.
  • Collaborate with the education team to develop and enhance K-12 school tours and support the annual Pinellas County School Student Art Exhibition.
  • Manage, mentor, and grow the Teen Volunteer Program, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and ongoing engagement.
  • Develop family-friendly interpretive resources and educational materials for permanent collection galleries and special exhibitions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to plan and execute special Youth & Family events.
  • Serve as a museum representative at community programs and outreach events.
  • Work with the Director of Education and the curatorial team to create and edit interpretive materials such as gallery text and educational resources as it relates to youth and family audiences.
  • Support departmental goals and contribute to additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Successful completion of Level II background screening and strict adherence to institutional child protection and youth safety policies.
