About The Position

Under the direction of the Youth Services Center Administration, the Youth Care Worker provides supervision and assists in maintaining a safe environment for the youth in our care.

Requirements

High School or GED, Associates Degree or two years of college credits preferred, and one-year experience working with youth or young adults
Valid Driver’s License to operate County owned vehicle
Must be 21 years of age or older
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all Departmental records and information
Working knowledge of local, state and federal laws applicable to Youth Services Center operations with the ability to apply and enforce regulations
Strong written and verbal communication
Ability to enforce center rules and regulations, resolve conflicts, respond to emergencies and take authoritative actions as needed
Previous training as Youth/Child Care worker and crisis intervention
Ability to prepare accurate and detailed records of all resident’s behavior
Ability to safely restrain residents

Responsibilities

Responsible for the supervision of the youth and maintaining a safe environment including wake-ups, showers, meals, recreation, study time, assigned work, special and seasonal activities and bedtime
Documents and updates files and paper work concerning the care of the youth
Evaluates residents’ behavior, resolves conflicts and addresses behavioral problems
Create and update students school charts to maintain accurate records
File appropriate paperwork for school
Assist the teacher with classroom duties
Complete a detailed safety care plan for each resident upon arrival
Maintains communication with supervisors concerning residents’ behavior, ensuring prescribed treatment plans are implemented and in compliance with all plan specifications
Maintains clean unit with residents’ assistance including, but not limited to, sweeping floors, cleaning furniture and appliances, washing windows, stocking and sanitizing bathrooms and changing beds
Ensure all hazardous hygiene products are kept in a secure location and out of reach of children
Transports residents to off-campus activities and appointments
Deep clean and sanitize school equipment
Ensure all students are practicing social distancing and wearing masks
Deep clean and sanitize units three times per day
Count, record, and dispenses medications and perform first aid to residents as needed.
Model, assist, and act as a role model teaching daily living skills including hygiene
Work one on one with students to help complete school assignments
Creates structured activities for residents
Teaching and documenting life skills to residents 16 years and older
Supervise and document residents’ visitation phone calls
Closely monitor students while on computers to ensure they are on appropriate sites
Assists with intake of new residents, including completing required forms and securing clothes and personal possessions
Maintains inventory of supplies, linens and personal hygiene products. Distributes upon request, ordering supplies as needed
Attend monthly mandatory staff meetings
Understand and abide by CARF standards, policies, and procedures
Complete TCI training and become certified within 1 year of hire
Performs all other duties as assigned
