About The Position

Youth Care Specialist – Garcia House - Full Time Join the Rescue Mission Team! Work Schedule : Wednesdays through Saturdays: 1:00pm-11:30pm | Rate of Pay : $17.50 per hour The Rescue Mission has opened our Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter also known as the Garcia House! We are seeking a Youth Care Specialist to work the 2nd shift ( Wednesdays through Saturdays : 1:00pm-11:30pm ) at the Garcia House. The Youth Care Specialist is an integral position for the well-being of the clients and overall function of the house. The position maintains a safe and supportive environment for clients, utilizing the resources of the Rescue Mission to ensure a healthy and pleasant stay and provide an environment of positive change for all clients served.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be approved through the Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS) to work at this facility.
  • Rate of Pay: $17.50 per hour
  • 2nd Shift Differential – Additional $1.00 per hour

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in human services or related field, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents, the homeless, addicted and/or mentally ill populations preferred.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License in compliance with company policy is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with youth as a safe adult, role model and consistent support.
  • Participates as a team player to provide consistent and reliable care for the youth staying in shelter.
  • Shares pertinent client information via documentation, participation in meetings, and on an individual basis as needed, maintaining confidentiality as appropriate.
  • Supports the Rescue Mission by operating within their Vision, Mission Statement and Core Values, promoting the Rescue Mission both at and outside of work and familiarizing yourself and complying with all Rescue Mission policies and procedures.
  • Uses Positive Youth Development framework, supports youth in skills necessary to reunify with family, while also improving Independent Living Skills.
  • Model and encourage healthy and safe interactions for youth, utilize a Restorative Justice framework to address conflicts.
  • Regularly cleans living spaces to ensure a clean and safe environment for clients.
  • Assists with mealtime by preparing and cooking food for clients.
  • Promote a safety-first attitude while using the Harm Reduction framework to support youth in improving their long-term ability to keep themselves safe.
  • Regular and predictable in-person attendance is an essential requirement of the job
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
