About The Position

The Facilities Maintenance Tradesperson – Youth Apprentice is responsible for learning and performing a broad range of facilities maintenance and construction activities in a heavy industrial environment under the guidance of experienced trades personnel and supervision. This role supports the Maintenance and Campus Services Division by assisting with construction, repair, installation, and preventative maintenance activities across campus facilities and production areas. The Youth Apprentice develops foundational skills across multiple trades, including carpentry, masonry, concrete, painting, glazing, roofing, and basic refractory repair, while adhering to strict safety, quality, environmental, and procedural standards.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited high school technical education program, with an emphasis in facilities maintenance, working towards graduation.
  • Required to take technical skills test, to evaluate current knowledge of facilities maintenance.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Study work assignments and work from drawings and sketches.
  • Repair and/or install doors, windows, and wood floors.
  • Construct pallets and crates for shipping and interplant use.
  • Fabricate jigs and fixtures.
  • Build and/or remodel offices as required.
  • Build, repair and install cabinets as required.
  • Construct stands for company advertising or publicity displays.
  • Hang pictures and repair frames, repair wood office chairs.
  • Proficiently and safely operate a wide variety of tools and equipment, e.g. table, band, cut-off, radial and skill saws; jointer, planer, pneumatic nailer, electric drill, grinders, etc.
  • Be capable of using Computerized Maintenance Management software to create work notifications, look-up and order parts, print work orders, and enter time confirmations.
  • Install acoustical (suspended) ceilings.
  • Install vinyl floor tile.
  • Install tape and finish sand all drywall installations (ready for painting).
  • Design and build flow process systems using Textube and extruded aluminum products.
  • Work with various polyethylene and UHMW products.
  • Order materials on SAP work orders (MS numbers only, non-stock orders procured by supervision) as needed for jobs assigned.
  • Ensure the quality required in each job performed.
  • Repair or replace all types of concrete and/or bricks.
  • Perform all concrete construction jobs in the plant as assigned.
  • Repair / rebuild furnace doors for the Enamel Shop and ATL.
  • Repair / rebuild smelter, kiln, and furnace refractory linings in all divisions as required
  • Design and pour concrete bases for the Kohler Industrial Arts Dept.
  • Other duties as assigned by Kohler leadership
