Start Date: 5/4/26 Estimated End Date: 10/31/26 a 26-week minimum commitment is required Location Details/Description: Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park (Woodstock, VT) Nestled among the rolling hills and pastures of eastern-central Vermont, the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park is the only national park to tell the story of conservation history and the evolving nature of land stewardship in America. The boyhood home of George Perkins Marsh, one of America's first conservationists, and later the home of Frederick Billings, the property was given to the American people by its most recent owners, Laurance S. and Mary F. Position Overview: The Education and Youth Fellow will help connect youth with the legacy of conservation through formal and informal programs and interactions. The member will help facilitate best practices of place-based education within a long-term partnership with the local school district supporting teachers and students, pre-k through 12 th grade. The fellow will also assist with the ins and outs of program management for youth work crews, summer camps, and other youth interns. One primary responsibility will be coordinating an in-depth 8-week career exploration of the National Park Service for high school interns. Duties include: Support Youth Program Coordinator and Education Program lead in developing and facilitating park educational visits for students aged Pre-K-12 in response to teacher request Assist with coordination of an in-depth 8-week career exploration internship program for two local high school students through collaboration with various park divisions, accessing professional development opportunities, and thorough communication. Assist with and co-lead the one-week Mountains and Rivers Forever Summer Camp, 2 overnights included, for middle school students Assist with development and logistics of weekly professional development activities for the cohort of 15 Young Professionals at the parks Develop and lead Youth Summit, a sharing of youth work with all park staff Coordinate youth specific volunteer projects with Volunteer and Accessibility Coordinator Work collaboratively with Science Education Fellows to implement curriculum Assist with special events as needed by working at assigned hubs (ex. Junior Ranger tent, entrance station, guided talks) Assist with developing and leading youth programs for the public. This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups. Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:30am - 5:00 pm ET. Position Benefits Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $600/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly. Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service and 640 hours of service. If the duration of a PLC-eligible term is not long enough for Members to accrue 640 hours of service (~16 weeks), the total hours served at the completion of the term may be eligible to be combined with hours accrued from another PLC-eligible term to meet the 640 hours requirement. PLC projects also include specific eligibility requirements such as age and citizenship. Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or the NPS. A $700/month housing allowance is available via reimbursement (6.5 months total). Training/Professional Development Allowance: ACE members will have access to up to $500 to be used for eligible professional development and training expenses. Further details regarding distribution of these funds will be provided during the interview process. Travel/Commute Allowance: ACE members will have access to up to $850 to be used for commuting and travel expenses. Further details regarding distribution of these funds will be provided during the interview process. Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support. Specific training may include CPR and First Aid, leadership, and safety.

Requirements

  • Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
  • A current and valid form of ID (will be required to provide copies of ID's upon hiring)
  • Willing to undergo and must pass the required criminal history checks
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.
  • Member may not participate in any prohibited activities as listed in the Member Service Agreement.
