About The Position

To provide comprehensive guidance and counseling support to youth residing in Wake, Lee, and Chatham Counties. The Youth Advocate will guide individuals through the process of obtaining a high school diploma/GED, post-secondary education, or connecting with sustainable full-time employment. This position will also be responsible for providing GED tutoring and activities leading up to successful GED attainment. The Youth Advocate will also provide post-GED activities that will be focused on keeping the youth actively engaged in the program until all of the youth’s goals have been met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Experience working with disconnected/at risk youth
  • 1-3 years of human services, training, or teaching experience
  • Skills and experience in providing career development and counseling assistance preferred
  • Experience in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to converse with a wide range of professionals and demonstrate a positive professional attitude
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving records, and automobile required

Responsibilities

  • Meet regularly with all active youth participants providing guidance and counseling
  • Provide individualized and holistic support to each participant tailored to their specific needs
  • Identify potential mentors for the youth population to aid in their success
  • Collaborate with business services team to connect youth to employment opportunities with local employers
  • Partner with local area training providers and refer clients as appropriate
  • Provide referrals to community partners when appropriate
  • Conduct regular assessments tailored to guiding the participants in their career goals
  • Conduct case management duties and maintain compliance with funder and WIOA guidelines
  • Complete required documentation accurately for enrollment and upload it into NCWorks database
  • Ensure all service and follow-up activities are updated and participant information is entered into all appropriate databases and files in a timely manner
  • Assist with keeping participants engaged with planned activities
  • Conduct workshops on and off site
  • Conduct community outreach to recruit participants
  • Work occasional evenings/weekends as needed
  • Provide individualized GED tutoring to support clients in successfully passing official GED exams.
  • Conduct weekly one-on-one tutoring sessions twice per week, tailoring instruction to each client’s learning needs and progress.
  • Serve as case manager for all GED clients, including coordinating test preparation, assisting with exam registration and payment, and scheduling official testing dates.
  • Prepare customized take-home study guides to reinforce learning.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, and providing incentives for successfully passed practice and official exams.
  • Manage a caseload and provide exceptional customer service
  • Support youth with attaining their GED or high school diploma
  • Actively recruit and select individuals for the program
  • Partner with local area training providers and community organizations to make appropriate referrals
  • Provide remediation to increase skill attainment
  • Explore career awareness opportunities to identify long term goals through career pathways
  • Perform data entry with minimal error
  • Maintain program compliance
