About The Position

The Yardman is responsible for the maintenance, organization, and general upkeep of the company yard and facilities. This role involves assisting with the receipt, storage, and dispatch of materials, as well as ensuring that equipment, tools, and vehicles are kept in good working condition. The Yardman plays a key role in supporting yard operations, working closely with the Yard Manager and other team members to ensure that daily activities are carried out efficiently and safely.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Experience working in a yard, warehouse, or similar environment is preferred but not required.
Experience operating forklifts and other yard equipment is a plus.
Ability to safely operate yard equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand tools (training may be provided).
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
Basic mechanical skills for performing minor repairs and maintenance on equipment.
Strong communication skills to interact effectively with team members and supervisors.
Must be able to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs.).
Ability to stand, walk, and work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods.
Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional overtime or weekends during peak periods.
Must follow all company safety protocols and procedures, including the use of PPE as required.

Nice To Haves

Experience working in a yard, warehouse, or similar environment is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Yard Maintenance:
Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the yard, ensuring that materials, equipment, and tools are stored in designated areas and are easily accessible.
Perform general yard duties such as sweeping, cleaning, and organizing to ensure the yard is in good condition.
Ensure that the yard is free from hazards and report any unsafe conditions to the Yard Manager.
Equipment & Tool Maintenance:
Inspect and maintain yard tools, equipment, and vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition.
Assist with minor repairs and routine maintenance on equipment as directed by the Yard Manager.
Keep records of maintenance and repairs performed on equipment and tools.
Loading & Unloading:
Assist in the loading and unloading of trucks, ensuring that materials and equipment are handled carefully to prevent damage or loss.
Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment to move materials around the yard.
Ensure that materials and products are properly secured and stored upon receipt or prior to dispatch.
Inventory Management:
Help with tracking and organizing inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment in the yard.
Assist in conducting stock counts and reporting discrepancies in inventory levels to the Yard Manager.
Ensure that materials are correctly labeled and stored in designated areas.
Yard Organization & Safety:
Assist in keeping the yard organized and free from clutter to ensure efficient operations.
Ensure that all safety protocols are followed, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
Report any safety concerns or equipment malfunctions to the Yard Manager immediately.
Support Yard Operations:
Work closely with the Yard Manager and other team members to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
Assist with yard improvement projects, including repairs and facility maintenance.
Communicate effectively with team members to ensure that tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner
