About The Position

The Yard Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, loading, unloading, storage, and staging of steel, lumber, and other materials to support yard and warehouse operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring customer orders are fulfilled accurately and on time while maintaining inventory accuracy and yard organization. This is a hands-on position that requires prior experience handling large, oversized freight and operating industrial material handling equipment in both indoor and outdoor environments. This is not a pick/pack warehouse role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3–5 years of prior warehouse, yard, shipping, or industrial material handling experience required
  • 3–5 years of forklift experience required; this is not an entry-level forklift role
  • Hands-on experience operating a Combi-Lift is required for this role
  • Must have experience safely loading, unloading, and moving large, oversized, and bulky freight
  • Experience working in an indoor / outdoor industrial environment required
  • Ability to maintain accurate inventory records and activity logs
  • Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to lift and move materials weighing 50–100 pounds
  • Must be physically capable of safely performing essential job duties in an active yard / warehouse setting
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen and maintain a drug-free workplace

Responsibilities

  • Safely load and unload materials from flatbeds, trailers, and delivery vehicles.
  • Operate forklifts, Combi-Lifts, and other material handling equipment to move steel, lumber, and oversized materials throughout the yard and warehouse.
  • Transport raw materials to designated workstations, storage areas, and shipping locations.
  • Stage, organize, and prepare materials for customer delivery and internal production needs.
  • Ensure customer loads are completed accurately and meet delivery schedules and customer-specific requirements.
  • Locate and move stock to pallets, racks, or designated storage areas.
  • Perform inventory movements, order reconciliation, and system transactions as needed.
  • Identify and report damaged materials, shortages, or quality concerns.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and activity logs.
  • Follow all company policies, safety rules, and legal guidelines.
  • Perform required equipment inspections before use and report maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard / warehouse environment.
  • Support a strong safety culture by identifying and reporting hazards or unsafe conditions.
  • Complete physical tasks accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Support other warehouse / yard duties as assigned.
  • Be willing to learn and support basic wood fabrication or material prep processes as needed.
