Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three years related experience and/or training; or combination of education and experience. Employee prefers at least three years’ experience; however, each applicant's qualifications will be weighed on a case-by-case basis.

Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License (commercial license preferred) and operate a motor vehicle.
Ability to operate various yard and freight handling equipment, in a safe manner.
Follow and understand all safety rules that apply to dock and warehouse operations.
Ability to drive and/or operate heavy machinery and/or equipment.
Ability to operate a forklift, lift gate, pallet jack, Yard Goat and hand truck or other equipment as necessary, on a regular basis.
PC Literate. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Capable of communicating and interacting effectively with multi-functional and diverse backgrounds.
Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Responds promptly and professionally to customer needs.
Must be able to read, write and communicate with others.
Must have a pleasant, positive personality and the ability to get along well with customers, co-workers and vendors.
Standing for prolonged periods of time is required.
Regularly works in outside weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

Minimum 6 months related experience preferred.
State issued Driver's License preferred.

Responsibilities

Proper handling and accurate completion of all necessary paperwork.
Hooking and unhooking trailers, raising, and lowering landing gear.
Moving trailers from dock to yard or from the yard to the dock.
Operating Yard Goat / Hostler to move trailers as needed around the yard
Pulling out and backing trailers into the dock
Pre and post trip inspections on Yard Goat, switch gears and trailers
Communication with the Supervisor/Team Leader
Fueling Yard Goat
Reads manifests or follows oral instructions to ascertain freight to be moved. Opens trailers
Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets by hand.
Loads materials into vehicles and installs bracing, rope, or dunnage to prevent shifting or damage in transit
Counts, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on control copy and manifest
Lifts heavy objects by hand or with pallet jacks or hand trucks and cleans work area
Excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Perform daily yard check
Perform other duties as assigned
Attendance is a key component of this position and requires the applicant to be consistently on time and at work.
