A Yard Spotter is responsible for driving an automatic yard truck, connecting/disconnecting to trailers, moving them around the yard and docks as production requires. A commercial driver's license is not required for the position and the candidate must demonstrate their ability to safely operate commercial motor vehicle in a private yard. Responsibilities: Move loads around the truck yard. Ability to back up trailers to dock doors, often with other trailers on either side of the dock Verify loads for accuracy Ensure trailer is in quality working condition prior to relocating Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on vehicle. Ensure load matches paperwork before leaving all sites. Safe and legal operation of a commercial vehicle. Various other duties and tasks as assigned. May perform activities related to load planning of outbound trucks to meet customer delivery requirements and cost parameters. Utilize material handling equipment including forklifts, hand trucks, skids, etc. to stage materials and load trucks. Verify product against shipping documents and authorizations, pack product for shipment according to specifications. Apply knowledge of department policies and procedures to resolve customer and operational concerns/issues as needed. Effectively communicate with customers, suppliers, customer service, and production. Build and maintain positive relationships within each service area/department; coordinating and utilizing resources to ensure all products are handled, stored and shipped according to established guidelines, at the lowest possible cost. Work closely with management staff to understand and assist with implementing action plans to achieve department objectives and improve efficiencies. Assist management with departmental activities, training, safety and special projects. Read, understand and comply with relevant federal, state, local and company safety regulations and policies (e.g., OSHA, Personal Protective Equipment, Safety Shoes, etc.) Reinforce safety training and safe work practices; participate in safety meetings. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Follow Company recommended techniques for lifting, stacking, manipulating and handling materials and operating Powered Industrial Vehicles. Assist with performing ancillary duties related to Production Expediting, coordinating the movement of materials throughout the facility. Receive raw materials, components or equipment unloaded from trucks. Verify incoming materials against bills of lading, packing slips, etc. Maintain records of good received and damaged goods.
