About The Position

The Utility Technician - Yard Attendant supports daily operations of the equipment yard by coordinating the movement, staging, and organization of heavy equipment and attachments. This role is responsible for checking in equipment upon arrival, maintaining accurate records, and efficiently placing equipment throughout the yard. The Yard Attendant also assists with loading and unloading equipment for customers, drivers, and internal teams, while maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized yard environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, skid steers, and other yard equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when tracking equipment movement and documentation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks such as climbing onto equipment, securing loads, and walking the yard.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers, drivers, and internal teams.
  • Commitment to following all safety procedures and maintaining a safe working environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in heavy equipment, rental equipment, construction, or dealership yard environment.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., skid steer, forklift, loaders, telehandlers).
  • Familiarity with equipment check-in/check-out processes, tagging, and inventory management systems.
  • Knowledge of Caterpillar equipment or similar construction machinery.
  • CDL or ability/willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and check in heavy equipment and attachments upon arrival.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of equipment movement, condition, and placement.
  • Organize and stage equipment in designated yard locations based on operational needs.
  • Load and unload equipment for customers, service technicians, and transport drivers using company-provided machinery (forklifts, loaders, etc.).
  • Ensure the yard is clean, well-organized, and free from safety hazards.
  • Perform daily equipment walk-arounds and report any damage or maintenance concerns.
  • Assist with inventory control, tagging, and tracking of equipment and attachments.
  • Follow all Fabick Cat safety policies, operating procedures, and equipment guidelines.
  • Support additional yard or facility responsibilities as assigned.
