About the YMCA of Memphis and the Mid-South: The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is a cornerstone non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA runs a large childcare program with over 130 before and after school sites in 17 school districts, 700 team members, 8,000 children daily, and over $20M in revenue. Position Summary: The Y-CAP Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing and overseeing Y-CAP (YMCA Community Action Program) at designated school sites. This role involves working directly with youth, families, school staff, and community partners to provide social-emotional learning, literacy support, and mentoring to students at risk of academic and behavioral challenges. The Coordinator will ensure program goals are met, data is tracked, and engagement opportunities for students and families are maximized.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience working with youth, particularly in school or community-based programs.
  • Strong understanding of social-emotional learning principles and youth development strategies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators, and community partners.
  • Proficiency in data collection and assessment tools to measure program effectiveness.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of program design and implementation.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate weekly and bi-weekly Y-CAP sessions at assigned school sites, incorporating social-emotional learning, mentoring partnerships, and literacy activities.
  • Support students in personal goal setting and skill development related to conflict resolution, academic success, and behavior management.
  • Coordinate enrichment activities that promote social and emotional growth.
  • Oversee the summer literacy program and violence prevention initiatives.
  • Conduct intake with parents/guardians to track student goals and desired growth outcomes.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with families about social-emotional learning and growth.
  • Develop and implement action plans for students, including behavioral and academic goals, in collaboration with parents, school staff, and YMCA leadership.
  • Collect and analyze student progress via reports, site-holder feedback, data-tracking systems, etc. to assess program impact.
  • Administer pre- and post-assessments to track social-emotional learning and growth.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, and outcomes to align with grant reporting and program evaluation needs.
  • Work closely with school counselors, principals, and YMCA staff to ensure seamless program integration.
  • Train and support Y-CAP staff and volunteers in delivering lesson plans and engaging with students.
  • Coordinate referral services and additional resources for students as needed.
