The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The primary purpose of the x-ray inspector is to ensure the safe use of medical and industrial radiation machines. The incumbent will work independently to conduct inspections, investigations and to evaluate multiple types of x-ray machines in various environments, to determine compliance with 10A NCAC 15 North Carolina Regulations for Protection Against Radiation. Responsible for preparing reports of inspection findings, tracking and review of data for state compliance. Maintains current inspection and registration databases for assigned region. Serves as a member of the State Emergency Response Team as required by Homeland Security. Will be responsible for audits of radiologic hazards, unsafe practices, incidents and usual occurrences and recommends methods for maintaining radiation dose As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA). Attends continuing education classes and training to maintain current knowledge of radiologic hazards, public safety and agency needs.
