JOB PURPOSE: The Wyoming State Engineer’s Office (WYSEO) is charged with the regulation and administration of the water resources in Wyoming. To assist those efforts, the intern position will assist Safety of Dams personnel with routine inspections as well as assist other division personnel (surface water, groundwater, board of control, interstate streams) with tasks as they arise. This is an onsite, full-time position based in Cheyenne, WY from mid-May until mid-August. Travel is required. Enjoy all that historic Cheyenne has to offer! Wyoming is known for its outdoor recreation and abundant opportunities such as hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, fishing, hunting, skiing, rafting, and boating are all within a few hours’ drive from Cheyenne. Cheyenne is also located along the Front Range urban corridor and close to diverse restaurants, festivals, concerts, professional sports, and Denver International Airport. JFNTMP

Requirements

  • Preference will be given to at least junior level students at the University of Wyoming in good standing.
  • Preference will be given to students with majors in Engineering, Natural Resources, and Geology.

Responsibilities

  • Aid Safety of Dams Engineers in inspecting dams within the state that have been classified as high or significant hazard potential.
  • Assist with periodic inspections of low hazard potential dams.
  • Aid in preparing correspondence to the owners of the above-mentioned dams detailing deficiencies and recommendations for action or repair.
  • Perform electronic records management of existing and new dams within the state.
  • Aid other WYSEO divisions (surface water, ground water, board of control, interstate streams)
  • Works a varied schedule that may include overtime.
