About The Position

A Wastewater Operations Technician II Sanitary operates and maintains equipment in a wastewater treatment plant. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a rotating shift with evening, night, weekend, holiday and callback hours as required or held over until properly relieved or for emergencies. Work is performed in a wastewater treatment plant where there is regular exposure to toxic chemicals, pathogenic bacteria, noxious odors and extremes of weather. Work requires moderate physical exertion.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • Have three years of experience in operation, maintenance and minor repair of equipment in a wastewater treatment plant; or completion of the City's wastewater apprenticeship program.
  • Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.
  • Employees in this class are required to hold and maintain a valid Temporary State of Maryland Operator’s Class A and Class 5 Wastewater Collections Certificate, issued by the Board of Waterworks and Wastewater Systems Operators, throughout employment.
