Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
A minimum of five years’ experience in the maintenance of wastewater facilities.
Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Class A CDL with a Hazmat endorsement.
Availability to work during non-scheduled hours when necessary.
Must be able to respond to District Facilities within approximately 45 minutes while on call.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment while knowing when to seek outside expertise.
Ability to follow through on tasks and adapt to changing priorities, process conditions, and circumstances.
Follow through on assignments and tasks with adaptability to shifting needs.
Maintain effective maintenance and inventory records.
Ensure necessary chemicals, materials, supplies, and equipment are available for section functions.
Strong understanding of the systems and equipment used in water and wastewater treatment, with ability to recognize and diagnose process and system malfunctions.
Strong understanding of mechanical concepts.
Must have excellent organizational and computer skills.
Strong working knowledge of state and federal health and safety requirements, including confined space, spill cleanup, and electro-mechanical equipment safety.
Must be able to read and understand equipment maintenance manuals, technical literature, blueprints, equipment operations, and share critical safety and operational information with employees.
Strong knowledge of water electro-mechanical repair methods and techniques.
Basic understanding of the Clean Water Act requirements and Colorado regulatory enforcement (e.g., Regulation 85).
Basic understanding of how the District’s wastewater treatment plant operates (headworks, chemical feed, pumping, biosolids, digestion, clarifiers, UV disinfection, reuse system, etc.).
Basic understanding of the District’s key electrical/mechanical equipment, including proper inspection, maintenance, repair, replacement, and testing.
Knowledge of State and Federal regulatory requirements related to water and wastewater facilities and programs.
Strong mathematical and analytical ability for process control calculations.
Effectively communicate complex technical information both verbally and in writing.
Ability to communicate technical information clearly to contractors, developers, property owners, employees, consultants, and the public.
Work with and manage people from diverse backgrounds and points of view as part of a team.
Capable of effectively supervising and working with others.
Work with diverse teams including conflict management, team building, strategic planning, and performance management.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.

Nice To Haves

ABC Class III Plant Maintenance Technologist Certification is preferred.
Two years or more supervisory experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Plans and directs preventative maintenance tasks, reviews work orders, and prioritizes work demands, assigns staff to a wide variety of plant maintenance projects.
Responds to emergency callouts.
Performs work in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
Effectively communicates with Safety Coordinator to ensure employee training is complete and up to date.
Supervises, instructs and inspects work of the plant maintenance personnel to ensure compliance with policies, procedures and quality standards, proper performance of maintenance work and repairs.
Schedules and coordinates work activities with other departments, sections, and contractors.
Recommend operating practices (SOP’s) and programs for improving all plant operations to the Plant Maintenance & Asset Management Supervisor.
Analyzes and recommends improvements to existing facilities, equipment and operating systems.
Supervises and inspects the work of contractors.
Develops and maintains records, files and databases relating to the wastewater facilities maintenance and operation, utilizing computerized maintenance/asset management systems.
Coordinates activities with other divisions, sections and contractors to avoid interruption of service.
Evaluates the need for and directs emergency responses to wastewater or other related emergencies.
Evaluates, documents and performs employee evaluations.
Assists with developing and monitoring of the plant maintenance budgets.
Performs work in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
Enters and exits confined spaces such as underground vaults and manholes.
Provides support for a variety of special projects by assisting with planning, site preparation, onsite staffing, clean-up and evaluation.
Supervises purchasing of repair parts and spare parts inventory.
Issues written and oral instructions.
Perform other duties and special assignments which may be outside the primary areas of employment.
Assist other sections as needed to complete the goals of the organization.
Provides emergency field assistance to disable equipment as needed and appropriate.
In the absence of the Lead Water Treatment Plant Maintenance Mechanic the Lead Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Mechanic would assume responsibilities for day-to-day assignments and prioritizations for the Water Treatment Plant.
