About The Position

WTVD Video Content Editor Department/Group Overview: Disney Entertainment’s eight-owned ABC stations are multiplatform leaders in local news and information. The only local news station with three downtown newsrooms (Raleigh/Fayetteville/Durham), ABC11 WTVD Eyewitness News provides 45.5 hours of local news every week, serving more than 1 million households in a 23-county area in North Carolina and Virginia. Eyewitness News also provides news, weather and sports information 24 hours a day on ABC11.com, the ABC11 mobile news app and the new connected TV app. Job Summary: We have an immediate opening for a motivated and creative Video Editor to work in a multi-platform newsroom. The ideal candidate must thrive under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment while remaining precise, detail-oriented, and able to take direction. This key newsroom position requires excellent communication skills, a calm demeanor, and the ability to troubleshoot under pressure while reacting quickly and appropriately. In this role, you will edit elements and packages for broadcast newscasts as well as content for Connected TV (CTV) streaming apps, our website, and all social media platforms. You will be responsible for recording and/or scheduling video recordings, performing quality control on content prior to distribution, and archiving media assets. Candidates should have a working knowledge of server-based digital media workflows and be comfortable adapting to a constantly evolving technical environment while maintaining a high level of excellence across both our online and linear products.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional video editing experience, preferably in a newsroom environment
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines, flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to adapt quickly to breaking news and schedule changes.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Film, Communications or a related field, or equivalent professional newsroom experience.
  • Advance degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Edit video for daily newscasts, digital platforms, and social media, transforming raw footage into cohesive, compelling stories aligned with editorial standards.
  • Collaborate with producers, reporters, and photographers to enhance storytelling, incorporating graphics, sound bites, voiceovers, and music as appropriate.
  • Ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance with journalistic and legal standards while meeting strict deadlines, including during breaking news coverage.
  • Manage, archive, and quality-check video assets while troubleshooting basic technical issues within editing systems and media workflows.
