About The Position

The Wellness Program Supervisor develops and implements evidence-based group health education and fitness sessions for the older adults served by Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia. Work is performed under general supervision reporting to the Director of Wellness.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of confidentiality, HIPAA, legal and ethical issues in working with seniors in accordance with the Americans with Disability Act.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers and community partners.
  • Must be able to design and implement educational components of planned physical activity programs.
  • Requires knowledge of clinical measurements that may be required by physical activity program regulations i.e. BMI, pulse and range of motion.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with senior and other age groups.
  • Superior group facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills to efficiently manage time and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and use of web-based software programs to maintain participant records and research program activities.
  • Frequent travel within the agencies service area; to include Western Tidewater
  • Ability to work remotely. This position has the flexibility to work a set hybrid schedule with both in office and remote hours, after training is completed.
  • Associates degree in a health-related field required, with concentration in exercise physiology, human services, or public health required, Bachelors preferred.
  • Two years previous experience working with older adult populations with diagnoses and health risks.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, acceptable driving record, and maintain relevant certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers Master Trainer certification in evidence-based health promotion programs such as Matter of Balance and Stanford University’s CDSMP and DSMP.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, coordinates, and implements evidence-based exercise programs and educational components for use in the community and SSSEVA wellness centers.
  • Develops community relationships with non-profit and for-profit organizations to promote wellness programs and awareness in the community.
  • Provides leader training to new partners and volunteers who will lead evidence-based classes in the community.
  • Responsible for planning class schedule, months in advance, to achieve unit goals.
  • Serves as subject matter expert to provide information on wellness, self-care and chronic disease, physical activity and injury prevention.
  • Establishes and maintains participants’ information and attendance records and submits to accrediting agency. Maintains information to be used in evaluating effectiveness of program.
  • Assist the Director in preparing regular reports on programs and participants for administration and funding sources.
  • Participates in program planning with affiliated agencies, nutrition center host agencies, higher education entities and representatives of potential funding source.
  • Participates in education, training and best practice research and analysis to incorporate trends, evidence and new programs that improve the experience of current participants and attract targeted prospects. Uses demographic analysis and projections for program sustainability and cost containment.
  • Consults with Department Director during formulation of new programs.
  • Maintains and orders printed materials, program necessities and promotional items as needed for ongoing programs.
  • Oversees agreements including parameters of work, monthly report receipt and agreement compliance, in conjunction with Director.
  • Works in conjunction with Volunteer Engagement Specialist, as needed, in training and supervising volunteers.
  • Collaborates with Western Tidewater Wellness Program Supervisor (EBP) to ensure continuity in planning and class schedules.
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Performs additional tasks as required.
