About The Position

This is a safety sensitive position located at the City of Bentonville Compost Facility under direction of the WRRF Compost Foreman. This position requires employees to safely operate and maintain heavy equipment, maintain a positive team atmosphere with associates and deal effectively, courteously, and professionally with the public. Employee directs and quantifies incoming green waste and conduct compost sales. Technology Knowledge Exe cutime, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and Word. Reporting, relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED) and minimum of 1 year experience in heavy equipment operations or a similar field; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
  • Write legibly.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Obtain and hold an Arkansas Departmental of Environmental Quality Apprentice (1A) Solid Waste Certification for one year and successfully train and pass certification for Solid Waste Class 1B.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B endorsement or able to obtain the Class B endorsement within 6 months of employment.
  • Candidate may be required to acquire Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality wastewater treatment certification and advance to the highest level attainable.

Responsibilities

  • Able to follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Attains knowledge of composting operation, government regulations and permit requirements.
  • Able to operate, inspect, and maintain compost equipment including windrow turner, invessel, front end loader, compost screening equipment, skid steer loader, backhoe, dump truck, sweeper truck, forklift, and compost bagging equipment.
  • Able to recognize potential equipment issues requiring maintenance prior to catastrophic mechanical failure.
  • Directs public where to dump incoming green waste. Inspects green waste prior to dumping to ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Able to make accurate currency transactions including volume and grade of product and to balance sales income with amount of product sold.
  • Able to maintain grounds, clean equipment, buildings, and vehicles associated with the composting facility.
  • Accurately document and maintain simple records and logs required for preparation of reports and maintain records.
  • Will be required to perform shift work, work on weekends, holidays, overtime, and during emergencies as needed.
  • Sound working knowledge of the relationship between wastewater treatment and composting operations including permit required sampling, analysis and reporting requirements.
