About The Position

WPOC, Baltimore’s #1 Country Station, is searching for a dynamic, engaging, and passionate Morning Show Co-Host to join Michael J, a beloved 25-year market personality, on-air. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced radio personality who has a true passion for country music, an in-depth understanding of Baltimore’s vibrant culture, and the social media expertise to connect with fans in new and innovative ways. We’re looking for a team player who thrives in a fast-paced, high-energy environment, and who can bring fresh ideas, creative energy, and a deep connection to the Baltimore community. As the co-host of a popular morning show, you’ll be responsible for engaging with our listeners, developing fun and compelling content, and contributing to the overall success of the show.

Requirements

• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and social networking
• Proficient in media production and broadcast systems; familiar with NexGen, Vox Pro, and Pro Tools
• Social skillset
• Lead promotion member for The Beat
• Strong knowledge of all FCC rules and regulations
• Socially informed and perceptive; up-to-date and in tune daily with the local and national trends and/or specialized knowledge of topics/events related to on-air discussions
• Demonstrated upbeat personality, informative, entertaining, and engaging on the air; able to relate to station audience
• Pleasant, charismatic, and well-controlled voice; excellent pronunciation
• Excellent verbal and written communication and editing skills; proficient in grammar; ability to make others feel comfortable and open up on air
• Demonstrated creativity and imagination
• Able to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations and personalities
• Can work well in a team environment; collaborative
• Able to adapt to changes in schedules and maintain composure in a fast-paced environment with short deadlines
• May require other language proficiency, e.g., Spanish
• 3+ years of on-air radio experience required
• Audio demo of on-air interviews, commentary, announcements, etc.
• 4-year college degree, preferably in Communications or Broadcast Journalism

Responsibilities

• On-Air Presence: Be an engaging, energetic, and relatable co-host, complementing Michael J’s long-standing presence in the market. You’ll interact with listeners, provide entertaining commentary, and keep the audience excited and engaged throughout the morning show.
• Content Creation: Collaborate with the team to develop daily content that resonates with our Baltimore audience. Bring fresh perspectives, local stories, and humor that will keep our show relevant and exciting.
• Social Media Savvy: Master the art of connecting with listeners and followers via social media. You should be skilled in creating engaging posts, interacting with fans, and generating buzz about the show and station across multiple platforms.
• Community Engagement: As a key ambassador for WPOC, you will represent the station at local events, charity functions, and community gatherings. Your love for Baltimore and its people should be evident in everything you do.
• Collaboration & Teamwork: Working closely with Michael J and the production team, you will contribute to the overall creative direction of the morning show and collaborate on ideas that continue to grow the show’s popularity.
• Perform news, talk, music, comedic, or other format shows or programs for broadcast entertainment.
• Establish a relationship with listeners by providing entertainment and/or information of interest consistent with format, genre, and targeted demographic audience.
• Interview guests, moderate debates, converse with callers, and host live events.
• Adhere to all guidelines, policies, and procedures of the station, iHeartMedia, the FCC, and all other federal, state, and local laws, including policies and procedures regarding indecency and obscenity.
• Prepare for an air shift using creativity, imagination, and the exercise of independent professional judgment in writing, producing, interviewing, taping, or broadcasting on-air material.
• Ensure logged commercials, promotions, and any other programming essential to the station's operation are aired.
• Maintain a website personality page.
• Participate in required station Programming, Promotions, and Sales staff meetings and events.
• Make regular approved appearances at paid and non-paid station events; serve as an ambassador for the radio station(s) when out in public.
• Execute only the interviews and events on air that are approved by the Program Director; follow the designated show format.
• Assist with voice-over and production of paid and non-paid spots required to run on the station.
• Serve as a primary creative voice and direct support staff of the show.
• Research and gain knowledge of the subject matter that facilitates speaking extemporaneously and providing immediate non-scripted analysis/commentary.
• Finalize content using digital audio editing software.
• Prepare written content, visual images, audio material, and video footage for websites, blogs, or other social media platforms.
• Check studio equipment for proper functioning and notify Engineering of technical malfunctions affecting the quality of the broadcast.
• Handles emergency inserts (e.g. news updates and breaking stories, emergencies, alert system tests, etc.); is on call for possible disasters, breaking news, or acts of nature.
