About The Position

The Workplace Violence Prevention Specialist is the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and will provide system wide program oversight and instruction for the Workplace Violence Prevention Program and part of the Security Training Program at St. Charles Heath System. This position will develop, implement, and maintain best practices for the Workplace Violence Program. While not formally assigned direct reports, the role directs instructors, develops curriculum, and influences policy and practice across the health system.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or combination of education and related experience to enable full performance of the position.
  • Ability to obtain Instructor certification in SCHS current workplace violence prevention program within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all SCHS worksites.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare, behavioral health, law enforcement, or a combination of experience.
  • Strong background in communication, instruction in a classroom, online and in-the-field setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, behavioral health or safety / security related field.
  • Clinical experience working with behavioral health or emergency department patient populations.
  • Background in workplace violence prevention in the healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provides operational oversight of the workplace violence prevention program, including instructor management, training delivery, and regulatory compliance, while guiding strategy, ensuring policy adherence, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to drive effectiveness and continuous improvement.
  • Ensures instructor competency and oversees the design, delivery, tracking, and evaluation of workplace violence prevention training programs across inpatient and outpatient settings, including scenario-based training and mock drills.
  • Monitors and interprets changes in laws, regulations, and standards (e.g., Joint Commission, OSHA, OR-OSHA, CMS), integrating updates into policies, training, and program practices; ensures ongoing compliance through audits, hazard vulnerability analysis, and improvement planning.
  • Leads workplace violence committees, including facilitation, regulatory compliance, action tracking, and co-chair responsibilities; presents program data, trends, and progress to leadership.
  • Tracks and analyzes workplace violence incidents, injuries, and program metrics; develops dashboards and reports to evaluate effectiveness and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Builds cross-departmental partnerships to advance initiatives and best practices; communicates program updates, training, and performance data to leadership and staff.
  • Oversees incident reporting and investigation processes, including SAS report review, follow-up, and departmental support to ensure thorough investigations and effective mitigation.
  • Responds to workplace violence incidents (e.g., Code Gray) and supports post-event debriefs and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Manages program resources and systems, including training materials, equipment, and data tracking platforms; ensures accurate recordkeeping, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Prepares and delivers detailed executive-level briefings and routine communications on program performance and initiatives.
  • Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects.

  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
