About The Position

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) is responsible for maintaining agency-wide environmental and occupational health and safety compliance. The Office of Environmental, Health & Safety seeks to hire a Workplace Violence (WPV) Investigator located in Flushing, New York. Under general direction, but with latitude for independent action and judgment, the selected candidate will conduct WPV investigations to gather information, identify causes, and provide recommendations for program improvements to prevent recurrence. The scope of investigatory activities includes reviewing and/or investigating employee complaints related to allegations of workplace violence. The selected candidate will prepare accurate written investigation reports in accordance with DEP Workplace Violence Prevention Program requirements. Candidate will be responsible for maintaining case files and entering data as required into a case management system. Candidate will conduct research or work with outside consultants as it may relate to the completion of investigations. The selected candidate will be expected to produce structured, clear, thorough, yet concise written investigation reports for workplace violence complaints. Reports are sent to Senior Management. The selected candidate will demonstrate the ability to conduct thorough investigations, perform effective professional interviews, pay attention to and identify details necessary for a successful investigation and to complete written investigation reports within forty-five (45) days. Requirements

  • 1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory, full-time experience as an investigator evaluating credit worthiness, searching for assets, verifying information concerning education, experience, and other personal qualifications bearing upon character and fitness for employment, or performing investigations involving the research, compilation and/or location of evidence or information in order to build a case or uncover activities of a criminal, corrupt, unlawful or unethical nature; or
  • 2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
  • 3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
  • 4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct WPV investigations to gather information, identify causes, and provide recommendations for program improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Review and/or investigate employee complaints related to allegations of workplace violence.
  • Prepare accurate written investigation reports in accordance with DEP Workplace Violence Prevention Program requirements.
