About The Position

Raritan Valley Community College strives to prepare students for the challenges of the ever-changing global community. The Beauty Professions Department at Raritan Valley Community College invites applications for a full-time, Workforce Educator in the field of Cosmetology and Hairstyling. In collaboration with Workforce Development leadership and Program instructors, the Workforce Educator will execute instruction in Cosmetology areas including New Jersey State Board Teachers Licensing, Hair and Makeup for Film, Employability and Soft Skill education for all courses, professional development and state board tutoring. The Workforce Educator will assist Program Director with scheduling training, assisting with developing new courses, and working with students and staff in the attainment of goals and objectives as applicable.

Requirements

  • Professional Cosmetology license and Teaching license as required by the state of New Jersey Board of Cosmetology.
  • Equivalent of at least 7 years of full-time experience working in the industry is required.
  • Stay current with state of the industry - must attend 15 hours of professional development
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills required with strong verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, multiple deadlines.
  • Flexibility with schedule to cover evening and weekend as necessary.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the College's mission of service to the community.
  • Program desires team player who can adapt to change and has a passion for helping students find long-term success through employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Prior experience as a teacher/trainer preferred.
  • Experience teaching in a High School setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging, high-quality instruction, mentorship, and test preparation in hard and soft skills to prepare students for long-term employment success.
  • Continuously improve lesson quality and ensure curriculum alignment with the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology, the Advisory Board, and industry standards.
  • Accurately assess student progress toward industry-validated competencies - provide timely feedback, and support lagging students to ensure all graduates meet required standards.
  • Model professionalism and exemplary soft skills consistent with industry expectations.
  • Adapt teaching styles to meet diverse learner needs while ensuring safety in the classroom.
  • Maintain accurate academic, attendance, and compliance records as required by state and institutional policies.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend instructional materials as needed.
  • Assist the Program Director with curricular updates, departmental initiatives, and administrative tasks.
  • Assist with Departmental strategic planning and outcomes assessment.
  • Attend and actively participate in departmental, college-wide, and industry events and meetings.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Serve on College-wide committees as necessary.
  • Keep professional certifications current, ensure facilities are maintained, and perform other duties as assigned.
