About The Position

The Workforce Development Program Coordinator is a key member of the State Workforce Development Board team. The Program Coordinator works directly with the Executive Director, the Board, and other staff to carry out Board strategies for improving Maine’s workforce development system. The Program Coordinator work involves researching workforce program best practices and recommending policy, operations and rule changes that would improve Maine’s workforce system. Interpersonal communications are critical, as the person in this position will interact regularly with leaders from businesses, labor organizations, the legislature, and both non-profit and government agencies. At times, interactions are as fellow members of working groups, other times interactions involve coordinating stakeholder groups or Board subcommittees. The Program Coordinator will prepare reports, rules and legislation based on best practices and direction from the Board. Presentations may be made on workforce matters at Board meetings, subcommittee meetings, and legislative hearings. The ideal candidate will demonstrate: Knowledge of the public workforce development system. Experience in researching, organizing, and presenting complex issues to a wide variety of audiences. Excellent interpersonal skills and experience coordinating stakeholders or working groups. Experience with effective public communications, such as through written reports, or oral testimony. Experience with agency rulemaking, policy development, and the legislative process.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the public workforce development system.
  • Experience in researching, organizing, and presenting complex issues to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience coordinating stakeholders or working groups.
  • Experience with effective public communications, such as through written reports, or oral testimony.
  • Experience with agency rulemaking, policy development, and the legislative process.
  • A seven-year combination of education and experience in workforce development, government relations or other subject area that demonstrates the profile above.
