The Work First Program is North Carolina's plan to help families become self sufficient and move into jobs. Work First is built upon the belief that all people have a responsibility to their families and community to work and provide for their children. We are currently recruiting for a Work First Eligibility Case Worker II. The Work First Intake team consist of eight (8) Work First Eligibility Case Worker IIs. and is responsible for determining initial eligibility for Work First services administered by Wake County. Also, these job duties may include other associated economic service programs such as: Work First, Refugee Cash, 200% Services and Benefit Diversion. This position involves a great deal of contact with clients thru face-to-face or telephone review of income, work history, educational background, public assistance history and family situation. Additionally, during this interview the Work First Intake team conducts a thorough family-centered and employment-focused evaluation of the applicant’s current needs and resources and takes an application for clients who meet Work First eligibility criteria. Please note selected candidates are required to complete 6 months in the office based on performance In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
Requirements
- High school degree or GED
- Three years of job-related experience
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted
- Ability to handle frequent client contact and be flexible and adaptable in an environment with frequent changes
- Excellent interviewing and assessment skills
- Expertise in counseling clients in crisis situations
- Knowledge of community resources
- Proficient with basic computer skills and the aptitude to learn new software
Nice To Haves
- Experience interviewing clients in crisis situations and assessing financial needs
- Work First program experience
- Fluent English skills required and Spanish skills preferred
- Proficient in NCFAST – keying and processing of applications
Responsibilities
- Empowering the client’s movement towards self-sufficiency
- Managing a small Benefit Diversion Program caseload
- Interviewing and processing Work First Cash Program applications, including Benefit Diversion and 200% Services applications, utilizing NCFAST and OnBase (document management system) as needed
- Processing Refugee applications, utilizing NCFAST and OnBase as needed
