About The Position

Reporting to the Woodyard Area Process Manager, the Front Line Leader (FLL) are responsible for the management, coordination, and direction of a crew of 10 operating members in the Woodyard, as well as up to 4 scalers at the Scalehouse. Front Line Leaders are responsible for making sure that all members understand what is expected of them, and holding them accountable for those expectations. They are accountable for ensuring that goals are met in turn around time, Woodyard uptime, housekeeping, and the completion of required checklists. Front Line Leaders must possess the ability to lead and manage safety, ensuring that all safety goals are accomplished. In addition, they must work to ensure the timely and accurate communication of information to and from all levels.

  • Candidates should have an understanding of the Woodyard and Scalehouse.
  • They must also have the ability to manage multiple tasks, work in a team, and execute work based on established standards and procedures, and put Safety above all else.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong leadership to the crew to meet the mill goals of keeping everyone safe, meet our production targets and stay within budget.
  • Possess the understanding of the department's safety rules and regulations.
  • Be the driving force for the shift's safety program (i.e. lead safety meetings with the shift, motivate the shift, conduct safety observations, effective communication on key safety issues, participate in FLL safety meetings, hold members accountable for their actions).
  • Conduct regular 1:1's with all members to set and adjust goals, address training concerns, questions, coaching and counseling for performance issues as required.
  • Lead routine shift responsibilities such as managing the shift schedule, overseeing overtime controls, completing training, goal setting, effectively communicating department/mill key levers, motivation, conducting Guidance Committees, performance management - coaching and counseling, promoting accountability, ensuring progressive discipline as necessary, etc.
  • The ability to understand and explain the importance of safety, the Mansfield Philosophy, key levers, and mill financial indicators and how they as front line leaders can impact those areas.
  • Know how to proficiently find all start-up and shutdown procedures for all equipment and have a basic understanding of those procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate & interact with all operating departments and all levels of mill management.
  • Understand and be able to teach basic ideas and requirements of the Manufacturing Work System, including notification entry & delivery ticket creation in SAP and outage planning as it pertains to the crews.
  • Ensure accurate & timely completion of all operator rounds, including but not limited to safety inspections and operator basic care.
  • Lead the resolution of mechanical and operating malfunctions throughout the mill process.
  • Read and interpret the results of all required tests and take the necessary corrective action, including but not limited to pulp and liquor tests.
  • Demonstrate good listening and communication skills.
  • Vacation coverage for other FLLs as needed
  • Participating in the department vacation calendar
  • Provide continuous Improvement efforts

  • Weekend Duty as needed
  • Training/Onboarding new FLL's
  • Participate in capital projects
  • Act as an IPCC Audit and Adherence for all departmental processes
  • Complete FLL Onboarding curriculum
  • Complete FLL Proficient curriculum within two years of assignment.
  • Holding members accountable to adhering to the attendance policies set forth by the department.
  • Closely coordinating all work and crew issues with area manager.
  • Completing Basic Care rounds and implementing work orders as needed in a timely manner.
  • Initiating reliability recordable and completing RCA's in timely manner.
  • Helping to coordinate special work projects.
  • Coordinating weekly plan for production and clean-up work.
  • Maintaining housekeeping.
  • Assisting the EHS coordinator with crew and safety training as needed.
  • Coordinating maintenance work with woodyard production schedule.
  • Ensuring maintenance tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Compiling necessary data to complete and distribute morning reports and downtime reports.
  • Possess a clear ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks, an understanding of team concepts, a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, as well as an established skill to execute work based on standards and procedures.
  • Qualified candidates must have a demonstrated ability to enforce accountability.
