The Patrol Camp Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe, positive, and well-coordinated experience for all campers at Woodward Park City. This position supports camp office operations by managing day-to-day logistics, maintaining a thorough understanding of camp procedures, and serving as a key liaison between campers, their families, medical personnel, and camp staff. This role is scheduled to take place from June through August. Under the direction of the Patrol Manager, the specialist is responsible for managing medical documentation, coordinating camper check-in and check-out with Intermountain Health nurses, overseeing follow-up care, and facilitating all necessary return-to-activity paperwork. They proactively address prescription and allergy needs, ensuring that each camper's medical records are accurate and up to date. The Patrol Camp Specialist also assists with parental communications through phone calls, emails, and in-person conversations. They work closely with staff to address camper needs, such as homesickness or concerns about peers. Additionally, this role supports broader camp operations, including activity support, special events, and serving as a resource for both campers and team members. The Specialist engages in discussions with staff to ensure that camper needs are met, playing a vital role in facilitating a positive camp experience.

Requirements

  • EMT or OEC certification with current BLS/CPR required (Athletic Trainer or RN certification considered).
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform physical movements, including bending, reaching, climbing, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods and sit in confined positions when necessary.
  • Ability to perform concentrated reading and writing tasks.
  • Ability to react quickly to physical changes in the environment, including while operating equipment.
  • Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods and in variable mountain environments, including exposure to extreme heat, sun, and fluctuating temperatures.
  • Must be able to effectively use mountain radios for communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with youth programs, camps, or recreation environments.
  • Experience collaborating with medical or emergency response personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to support campers experiencing medical, emotional, or social challenges.
  • Familiarity with Woodward Park City programming, camp procedures, or action sports environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily support to the Patrol Team, Camp Nurse, and camp office staff.
  • Document and track incidents accurately and promptly.
  • Coordinate with medical and patrol personnel to meet the needs of campers.
  • Ensure the comfort and safety of campers who are sick, homesick, or injured.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential medical files for all participants.
  • Update camper accounts with timely and relevant information related to their camp experience.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Woodward Park City policies and procedures and perform frontline duties as needed.
  • Assist with operational needs outside the camp office, including camper activities, events, checking, and check‑out.
  • Engage enthusiastically in recreational activities.
  • Communicate effectively with Managers, Supervisors, Patrollers, Coaches, F&B, and camp staff.
  • Organize and maintain camper lists and related records.
  • Support general maintenance and cleanliness of camp facilities such as the FAR, ATR, Hydration Station, Camper Lounge, and Hive Cafeteria.
  • Report directly to the Senior Manager of Patrol.
