About The Position

The Park Patrol perform a variety of services for the park district staff and guests including the following major functions; community relations, external and internal guest services, and basic park safety and security inspections and requesting guest ordinance compliance. Park Patrol will carry out patrol assignments.

Requirements

  • High School graduate
  • Ability to walk or drive to and in park locations for up to 4 hours per shift.
  • Good judgement and conflict resolution skills in confrontational situations.
  • Well established interpersonal skills as they relate to answering questions and providing guest services.
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License.
  • Valid First Aid, and CPR certification or ability to obtain. (Will train)
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision to solve problems and produce work on a timely basis.
  • Must possess the ability to follow directions and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Employee must use good safety awareness and judgment in all aspects of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • experience in customer relations preferred
  • college credit in law enforcement or criminal justice from a college or university and/or experience in a police position is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Patrols parks on bicycle, in assigned vehicle and/or by foot.
  • Open and close park facilities such as shelters, restrooms, etc.
  • Complete all assignments issued by the Human Resources & Risk Management and communicate if assignments cannot be completed on the schedule established.
  • Function as guest service and as a security presence at Park District special events.
  • Assist Park district staff in facilitating special events as assigned.
  • Inspect all park and playground areas for safety or security concerns, excess litter, or vandalism/graffiti.
  • Correct minor observations if possible and report uncorrected items to the appropriate Parks maintenance staff and/or law enforcement.
  • Educate Park guests by providing information on District regulations, services, parks, programs, and facilities.
  • Provide answers to guest’s questions, resolve conflict, aid or request compliances with ordinances.
  • Communicate with appropriate staff or law enforcement to resolve conflict, maintain order or enforce park ordinances if necessary.
  • Complete all required paperwork pertaining to the shift worked.
  • Performs the job safely and in compliance with the districts polices, procedures, work and safety rules.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
