About The Position

This position supervises the daily operation of the Woodward Copper summer camp. The Counselor Supervisor is responsible for supervision of the Counselor staff as well as the campers on a daily and nightly basis. The Woodward Copper Summer Camp Counselor Supervisor will be responsible for living on site at Copper Mountains to assist counselors in overseeing each group of campers and tending to their unique needs. They will have responsibilities including monitoring counselor, and camper whereabouts, assisting counselors with campers wake-up and bedtime responsibilities, assisting the Activities Lead with camper recreation, and ensuring campers’ psychological needs are met. This individual will be responsible for the counselors who will each have a group of approximately 6 to 10 campers of a similar age. The Counselor Supervisor will assist the counselors and coaches to ensure smooth daily transitions. The Counselor Supervisor will communicate with the camp office, as well as the campers, coaches and medical staff when necessary, to ensure any physical and psychological needs are attended; e.g., daily medications, challenges during instruction or room. They will convey important communication to the camp office, as well as coaches and medical staff when necessary, to ensure campers needs are foreseen, understood, and dealt with appropriately, (e.g., homesickness, peer challenges, overnight issues). They will be an integral part of all-around camp life. They will be responsible for knowing where their counselors are at any time during their shifts. May also be responsible for monitoring larger groups of campers during mealtimes or other times as deemed necessary by the Operations Manager and/or the camp office. The Counselor Supervisor and Office Supervisor will schedule and train the Counselors and Transportation staff as needed for assistance with camper recreation. Days and hours may vary but will include weekends and holidays. Good written and oral communication skills, computer skills, team player attitude, and cash handling skills required. The Counselor Supervisor is a full-time seasonal position and is responsible for the management and supervision of approximately 22-28 employees. Days and hours may vary but will include weekends and holidays. Must be able to work in all camp environments within a variety of day and evening hours. Minimum 2 years previous operational management and/or supervisory experience required. Candidates must be available to work the entire summer camp season including prep and break down from May to August.

Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Due to the sensitive nature of this position, a criminal background check will be conducted after position is accepted. This background check will be done in accordance with standards enacted under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
  • Must have a valid US Driver’s License
  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Minimum 2 years’ management/supervisory experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years’ guest service experience required.
  • Must have 3+ years’ experience working with kids and/or teens.
  • 1-2 summers experience working in a Camp environment is required.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous resort experience in a high volume customer oriented environment preferred.
  • Computer proficiency in MS windows which includes MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Training experience preferred.
  • College degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Must provide a letter of recommendation and 3 work related references.
  • CDL preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all camp programs
  • Communicate camper information to Management and Counselor staff in a professional, discreet manner
  • Supervise the monitoring of campers’ physical whereabouts
  • Participate in recreation activities enthusiastically
  • General maintenance and cleaning of all camp facilities including but not limited to the Barn, the EDGE, etc.
  • Drive campers safely in a 15 passenger van
  • Maintains a positive attitude in an eight to ten hour day, and on stressful high volume days, in order to uphold the highest standard of professionalism (including appearance and behavior at all times) as a member of the Woodward Copper staff.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and proven performance in controlling expenses and payroll in relation to business volumes including Workday sign off.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with Powdr-Copper Mountain and Village at Copper employees, parents, public, and other members of the Copper Mountain community.
  • Be knowledgeable in all departmental aspects of Woodward Copper policies and procedures.
  • Be able to perform the counselor duties wherever/whenever required.
  • Generates work schedules and assigns employees to specific duties to ensure standards of the division are met.
  • Account for all security issues involving cash, theft, liability, and bullying.
  • May assist with Woodward Copper related on mountain duties which include but are not limited to digging/raking snow or assisting Mountain Operations in maintaining fencing and signage.
  • Attend weekly operational meetings and is prepared to discuss current operations, labor issues, training issues, and any other pertinent information to Woodward Copper.
  • Reports to Woodward Copper Operations Manager.
  • Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Efficient staff scheduling to meet labor budgets in relation to business volumes and sales targets.
  • Ensure daily recording of Camp labor in Workday system- report daily and weekly.
  • Recognizes and motivates team on a daily basis through staff meetings, one on ones, as well as spontaneous or planned recognition to ensure staff is working in a positive, fun and safe work environment.
  • Strong team player with proven leadership skills and experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively and motivate kids, teens, adults, and parents.
  • Outgoing demeanor and a willingness to act as an ambassador for freestyle snowboarding, skiing, cheer, and skateboarding as well as a role model for kids and teens.
  • Functions as an ambassador of Copper Mountain, modeling and sharing the Copper “culture” with our guests and employees.

  • Continually strives to exceed our guest’s expectations and create memories for our guests and staff.
  • All Leadership team members are expected to participate in the company’s Front Line Assist program to assist in operations as needed, as well as to participate in Leadership events such as meetings, required trainings, and participating in employee dinners/events
  • This position is a seasonal position and may have fluctuations in hours worked based upon overall business volumes.
