About The Position

The Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences offers a BA degree program in Sociology (concentrations in Community Change, Race and Ethnic Studies, and Women, Gender, & Sexuality) and Minors in Asian American Studies, Sociology, Sociology of Education, and Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies. With approximately 700 majors and 40 faculty members, SISS is a growing and vibrant department community. Valuing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, we aim to sustain our capacity for excellence in research, teaching, and service by incorporating faculty, students, and staff who share our commitment to these values. Requirements

  • A Master's degree or higher in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline to teach lower-division courses.
  • Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity-including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation-through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
  • Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).
  • Teaching responsibilities for these positions include undergraduate courses in all areas of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, although our current needs fall within WGSS 101: Sex Power and Politics.
  • The performance of instructional responsibilities extends beyond duties in the classroom and includes such activities as the following: preparation for class, evaluation of student performance, syllabus preparation and revision, holding weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load, review of current literature and research in the subject area, regular assessment of course and program learning outcomes and pedagogical improvements.
