Information Systems Specialist 5 – Wireless Systems Specialist (Radio) Oregon Department of Transportation Delivery & Operations Division – Maintenance & Operations Branch Wireless Communications Section La Grande The role: Join our Wireless Communications Section as a wireless systems specialist in La Grande! In this role, you will construct, install, maintain and repair diverse wireless two-way radio and microwave network systems for your assigned service area. You will support and coordinate the communication systems for customers including our agency, Oregon State Police, the Fire Marshall’s office and more. This role is similar to radio technician, electronics technician, communications technician, radio service, tower technician, telecommunications specialist, broadcast technologist, radio frequency (RF) signalman, power systems control craftsman and land mobile radio service positions. If you are a current State of Oregon employee, you must apply through your employee Workday profile. A day in the life: Evaluate situations and resolve questions or customer inquiries. Install, test, replace or repair a variety of cable types. Review customer’s operational needs and requests. Identify, prepare and provide on-site training for customers. Manage and coordinate the installation of mobile radio equipment. Identify, diagnose, track and report problems and determine repair or replacement priorities. Contact multiple equipment vendors to obtain technical information and request repair or upgrades. Maintain systems and equipment to ensure peak operating condition. Operate a Sno-Cat or UTV (utility task vehicle) in inclement weather or rough conditions to gain access to remote locations to repair, install and provide emergency restoration of equipment or systems. Climb and work on towers and antenna structures up to 180 feet above ground and work with high voltages. Considerable region-wide or statewide travel in all weather conditions and time of day required. Move or lift heavy objects excess of 70 pounds following safety procedures.
