About The Position

We are seeking multiple team members to join in field and lab work to contribute to learning about and addressing challenges facing Manoomin (wild rice) in waters throughout the Ceded Territories. Responsibilities for the position will vary based on partner priorities and may include (but are not limited to), field work, lab work, data management, outreach and education. We are looking for individuals enthusiastic to work within tribal, academic, and agency communities to promote and support the future of Manoomin, Nibi (water), and food sovereignty. Individuals will have the opportunity to network across partner groups and can be supported to remain embedded within their communities or to live at the Center for Limnology’s Trout Lake Field Station in Vilas County, WI. During the field season (June–August), expect 35–40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. If work continues outside the field season period, hours will be reduced to under 30 per week, generally Monday through Friday.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to safely work on and in water
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly for field work throughout the Ceded Territories of Northern Wisconsin
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical or program information to team members and members of the public
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with community members, partners, and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, including the ability to maintain research schedules and ensure data quality assurance and accurate recordkeeping
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute creative ideas to the development or improvement of programs, outreach activities, or research initiatives
  • High School Diploma

Responsibilities

  • Reviews data to summarize results for presentations or reporting
  • Inspects and maintains equipment, supplies, inventory, and facility spaces
  • Collects data and monitors test results according to established research requirements and specifications
  • May assist with literature reviews and/or report writing
  • Performs lab and/or field test materials and samples according to established research requirements and specifications.
  • Performs lab or field tests
  • Participates in discussions and meetings regarding wild rice with collaborators
