About The Position

Johns Hopkins WIC Program is seeking a WIC Outreach Coordinator who will oversee the day-to-day activities of the WIC Program, providing community clinic outreach services. The WIC Outreach Coordinator will provide WIC services at Family Support Centers, Baltimore City Head Start Programs, Baltimore City Judy Centers, Managed Care Organizations, and Federally Qualified Health Centers, and various community partners, including non-profit organizations, determining participants’ eligibility for the WIC Program and providing breastfeeding counseling and support, basic nutrition, and preventive health education to WIC participants.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of related WIC experience, including prior experience working effectively with low-income, multi-cultural population(s) and the public.
  • Fluent in the Spanish language
  • Experience in planning and organizing the Outreach Plan.
  • Experience using computer software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Cale
  • Demonstrated interest in and ability to work with WIC’s target population group.
  • Sensitive to and respect for the cultural diversity and biases of the target population.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in the English language.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with various administrative functions, such as the development of policies and procedures.
  • Monitors the enrollment of a participant base within the community and oversees efforts geared to improve WIC participant retention.
  • Visits other social programs and sites to interview participants and potential participants to determine eligibility for the WIC Program.
  • Conducts participant interviews to obtain socio-economic, health, and dietary information.
  • Performs and records of height, weight, and hemoglobin measurements.
  • Screens for the health and nutritional status of clients and identify problems that place them at nutritional risk.
  • Provides basic health and nutrition information to participants through individual group sessions.
  • Provides breastfeeding counseling and support, basic nutrition, and preventive health education to WIC participants.
  • Refers participants to other health, food assistance, and social services programs.
  • Provides eWIC cards for food delivery to certified participants.
  • Work closely with other team members.
  • Participates in team/State WIC meetings; attends in-service meetings, applicable workshops, and community events.
  • Research and discuss problems with appropriate personnel and take suitable measures to resolve issues.
  • Resolves scheduling conflicts and maintains clinic participation flow.
  • Prepares and maintains clinic statistics and generates reports to track missed appointments.
  • Ensures that Federal and State policies are complied with (i.e., equipment, HIPAA).
  • Manages caseload files of participants in need of special assistance.
  • Assists the State Vendor Unit with training of vendor personnel and implementation of policies and procedures related to food delivery.
  • Treat everyone with compassion, courtesy, care, and respect.
  • Communicate effectively and promptly.
  • Travel to various locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
