About The Position

The WIC Manager is responsible for implementing and overseeing the operational administration of the WIC program. This role directs and coordinates WIC services across all clinic sites to ensure compliance with federal, state, and agency regulations. With a Quality, Customer First, and Compassionate approach, The WIC Manager will: Perform professional, administrative, and supervisory work in the implementation and evaluation of the WIC Program. Evaluate participant services, including clinic flow, staff roles and responsibilities, time management, clinic accessibility, and community needs. Ensure the program provides nutrition education, issues supplemental foods, supports breastfeeding, and makes health referrals for all eligible participants. Monitor operational details across all sites, including productivity, scheduling, staffing, and quality improvement. Lead quality improvement initiatives to meet participant needs, including developing innovative service delivery methods. Ensure compliance with all agency, state, and federal policies, procedures, protocols, and regulations. Develop and implement plans, policies, procedures, and standards for program operations within state and federal guidelines. Collaborate with ASCO on program planning and budget development. Conduct regular staff meetings to review compliance with policies, procedures, and protocols. Manage outreach, marketing, and public relations activities to increase program participation. Supervise nutrition education activities and oversee submission of the annual Nutrition Education Plan. Maintain, organize, and update nutrition education materials. Prepare for biannual program evaluations and submit corrective action plans as needed. Organize, prepare, and analyze reports; ensure timely submission of month-end data and required documentation. Oversee maintenance and accuracy testing of equipment at all clinic sites. Build and strengthen partnerships with community organizations for WIC outreach. Promote breastfeeding practices in all interactions with staff, participants, and the community. Safeguard confidentiality of participant, program, and employee information. Develop and deliver training for program staff, participants, volunteers, students, and interns. Create, review, and evaluate educational materials for staff and participants. Supervise daily duties, conduct performance evaluations, audit timekeeping records, and manage other supervisory functions for WIC staff. Review participant charts to ensure accurate and appropriate assessment, counseling, education plans, follow-up, food packages, referrals, and documentation. Ensure required retail monitoring, vendor training, and reporting are completed. Oversee staff orientation, training, and evaluations; ensure completion of required WIC certification modules within designated timeframes. Maintain accurate and current personnel records, including certifications and training logs. Support and encourage the professional growth and development of WIC employees. Participate in continuing education activities (e.g., meetings, workshops, conferences, webinars) to remain current on nutrition research and strengthen leadership skills. Attend Sunrise Management Meetings and other organizational meetings and events as needed. Carry out supervisory responsibilities, including interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining staff, and resolving concerns or conflicts. Performs the following as needed: Conduct health screenings as needed, including obtaining accurate height, weight, and hemoglobin measurements. Interview participants to collect comprehensive dietary and nutrition-related health information. Assess nutrition and education needs by interpreting anthropometric and laboratory data, health history, medical diagnoses, physician orders, eating practices, and related factors. Identify needs for and refer participants to appropriate community resources. Develop, implement, evaluate, and monitor individualized nutrition care plans. Provide participant-centered counseling to individuals and families on nutrition needs, supporting them in achieving nutrition-related goals. Deliver nutrition counseling that accounts for income, cultural and religious food patterns, education level, and other social factors. Consult with healthcare providers regarding participants’ nutritional needs, special formulas, and related health concerns. Promote breastfeeding as the optimal infant-feeding choice. Authorize use of non-contract brand formulas, exempt infant formulas, WIC-eligible medical foods, and tailored WIC food packages based on individual needs. Document participant concerns, nutrition assessments, education provided, referrals, progress toward behavior change, and follow-up plans in participant charts. Address participant complaints professionally and report concerns to appropriate parties (State WIC office and/or Sunrise). Support and assist team members to meet participant needs, while coordinating participant flow within the department. Review charts for high- and moderate-risk participants to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of assessments, counseling, education plans, follow-ups, food packages, referrals, and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in dietetics, nutrition, food services and/or nursing.
  • Registered Dietitian or Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum 5 years’ related work experience in WIC or other public health program, management/supervisory experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
