The WIC Department Managers provides leadership and takes responsibility for the general management of the Women, Infants and Children [WIC] program operations through Broadlawns Medical Center under the general supervision of the Director of WIC with technical assistance from the Iowa WIC Program.

Requirements

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in the areas of Public Health, Nursing, Social Work, Health administration, or a Business, health related field such as a degree in food and nutrition/dietetics/community nutrition.
  • Minimum of 1 year of public health experience related to improving, maintaining, and protecting the general condition of health within society either on a personal, institutional, organizational or community basis.
  • Strong knowledge of maternal and child health, nutrition principles and regulations governing the WIC program
  • One year of supervisory or program administration experience in healthcare field or Public Health field.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with a variety of socioeconomic groups and overcome possible language/cultural barriers.
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • 1 years of experience and knowledge of maternal and child health, nutrition principles and regulations governing the WIC program

Responsibilities

  • Performs professional and administrative work in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the WIC Program.
  • Manages and coordinates WIC activities of all clinic sites and activities to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations and that program functions are completed.
  • Participates in the hiring, onboarding, training, supervision, and evaluation of WIC staff and other assigned positions.
  • Performs administrative duties including payroll processing, personnel documentation, quality improvement monitoring, and schedule management.
  • Assists with budget preparation and ongoing budget monitoring, as needed.
  • Assists with contractual relationships with vendors and Health and Human Services providers.
  • Participates in WIC sponsored local/state/regional/NWA meetings, community groups, coalitions, task forces, and advisory committees in a collaborative manner.
  • Directs outreach activities to assure that the maximum number of eligible participants will be served within funding limits.
  • Works with other entities that service women and children to assure that WIC referral information and participant education materials are available, and that other concerns are addressed as they arise.
  • Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Maintains professional communication with all staff, patients and customers to provide Service Excellence
  • Helps facilitates designated departmental meetings as needed and “work projects” to develop strategies for continued quality improvement within designated time frame.
  • Completes required annual mandatory education within defined time frame.
  • Provide data and input toward organizational goals, ie the Roadmap [Patient Care/Workforce/Community/Financial Stewardship]
  • Participation in regulatory accreditation compliance (DNV)
  • Support and maintain REACH values [Respect/Excellence/Access/Compassion/Healing]
  • Completion of an annual Performance Improvement Evaluation.
  • Develops and maintains departmental policies, procedures and protocols to ensure consistent and effective WIC practices
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills
