The Hill, a division of Nexstar Media Group, is hiring a White House reporter to cover the Trump administration. The position will be focused on covering both President Trump’s daily schedule, and larger themes touching on politics and policy as his administration remakes the government. Duties include attending and covering White House press briefings, tracking his travel domestically and internationally, Oval Office appearances with world leaders and actions taken by different parts of the White House, from the Office of Management and Budget to the Office of the Vice President. About the role: The person filling this role will be responsible for a mix of spot news stories, regular briefs and features. It is a very fast-paced schedule given the sheer amount of news the president and his team make on a daily basis. We’re looking for someone who can keep up with that pace and has sources that can help provide daily scoops to be used across The Hill’s platforms, including our newsletters, and for someone who can develop and build sources in Trump’s orbit. We also want to jump on angles fast and first that make people stop and think, and that grab their attention. Candidates who gravitate toward news stories that are unique, who can write in a compelling and informative way and who are good at helping readers understand the government’s actions will have the best chance of success in this role. Those covering the White House are at the center of our operation. The ability to work collaboratively with other reporters covering Congress, public policy and political campaigns is key.
