About The Position

Under the supervision of the Wellness Operations Supervisor, the Wellness Screening Technician plays a key role in delivering preventive health services through community and clinical wellness screenings. This position performs health assessments including phlebotomy, vital sign measurements, and bone density screenings using specialized equipment while maintaining strict patient confidentiality and safety standards. The technician collects and processes biological specimens, accurately records screening data in the electronic medical record (EMR), and provides patients with clear education about their results, including blood pressure and bone density findings. This role also supports preliminary laboratory processing and ensures proper handling and transport of specimens. In addition to conducting screenings, the technician assists patients in understanding their results, facilitates follow-up care by coordinating with physicians and clinical teams when abnormal findings occur, and helps schedule necessary appointments. The position is responsible for maintaining, calibrating, and preparing screening equipment, as well as preparing documentation and reports used for personal health risk assessments. This role regularly represents the medical center at health fairs, workplace screenings, and community wellness events, helping promote preventive care and healthy lifestyles. The Wellness Screening Technician also supports departmental operations and other assigned duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Phlebotomy experience or certification preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficient in computer skills, as well as typing, word processing, billing, and data entry
  • Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with a variety of people
  • Ability to work in stressful situations and concentrate when interrupted
  • Ensure confidentiality of highly sensitive, personal health information
  • Analytical skills to compare lab reports to health risk assessments
  • Acute attention to detail
  • High level of interpersonal skills needed to effectively coordinate programs for a variety of audiences
  • Aware of HIPPA guidelines, processes, & coordinates release of information
  • Work using safety protective measures to ensure personal and others safety
  • Able to follow and carry out anaphylaxis protocol, safe transport of oxygen tanks, and monitoring vaccinations
  • Articulate and explain results and procedures in a coherent manner to participants
  • High school graduate or GED, higher education desired
  • Possess clinical knowledge of physiology and anatomy
  • Current driver’s license required
  • BLS certification required within two months of employment
  • Must demonstrate exceptional customer service, including telephone etiquette and communication skills regardless of situation encountered
  • Open to feedback and open to a changing environment, which requires flexibility in scheduling and department assignments
  • Must demonstrate teamwork aptitude to deliver quality care
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in preparing health risk assessment results
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations to complete reports, prepare statistical information, manage billing for screenings
  • Ability to deal effectively with multiple tasks, stresses, deadlines, and difficult situations
  • Must demonstrate organizational skills, prioritization to deliver optimum patient care and be able to multitask
  • Must be able to demonstrate judgment regarding patient specimen collection and be able to function independently
  • Must be able to represent St. Peter’s Hospital in a professional and courteous manner
