About The Position

The Wellness Specialist should have 2-3 years of retail Wellness Department experience. While providing excellent customer service in the Wellness Department the Wellness Specialist is responsible to facilitate ordering, receiving, pricing, storing, inventorying and stocking products. Must have specialized knowledge of natural health, which could include body care, herbs, special diets, vitamins and supplements and be able to translate that knowledge into supporting the Wellness Department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certificate preferred.
  • Relevant education or experience to effectively represent the product and the store in all interactions; i.e., specialized knowledge of natural health and body care products, herbs, special diets, vitamins and supplements.
  • Previous and/or related work in the natural foods industry buying, ordering and receiving.
  • Proven track record of vendor relationship development
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments
  • Displays self-motivation
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and delegate as needed
  • Strong communication skills and experience to handle a wide variety of customer/vendor interactions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or electronic form.

  • Formalized alternative medicine training such as Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, etc. a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Model the BriarPatch customer service standards to all internal and external customers
  • Maintains a pleasant, helpful relationship with co-workers, customers and vendors
  • Provides on-floor assistance in a friendly, knowledgeable and helpful manner
  • Manages difficult or emotional customer situations
  • Responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve service
  • Responds to requests for service and assistance; meets commitments.
  • Ensure guidelines for product selection are followed
  • Ensure fully stocked department at all times, including end caps and with special attention to presentation in all display areas
  • Ensure that credits for ‘mis-picks’ and damaged goods are acted upon
  • Ensure that all products are ‘faced’ forward and neatly displayed on the shelf
  • Clean shelves and other department spaces regularly
  • Fully stock shelves daily from back stock supply
  • Ensure products are placed neatly and in the correct location
  • Participate in all department and full staff meetings
  • Participate in planning and facilitation of department meetings
  • Maintain storage and display areas in clean, orderly and efficient condition
  • Integrate and organize back stock
  • Participate in thorough cleanings of all work and display areas
  • Responsible for removing trash and recycling packing materials and cardboard.
  • Maintain security of store during shift, ensure that the store is opened and closed following security procedures
  • See that spills and hazardous conditions are cleaned up
  • Deal with shoplifters, disorderly customers and medical emergencies in accordance with established procedures
  • Comply with health department regulations.
  • Protect the safety of self, co-worker's, and BriarPatch Co-op patrons at all times.
  • Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
  • Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to supervisor.
  • Follow all company and safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of self or others.
  • Contribute to sustainability efforts at BriarPatch that support a sustainable community through: Minimizing waste by reducing and reusing materials and resources when possible. Proper recycling and composting. Water & energy conservation.
