About The Position

As the Wellness Manager, you will be responsible for the effective operation of assigned departments. Responsibility may include but is not limited to center operation, program operation, program development and growth, participant satisfaction, participant and member retention and safety, community collaborations, volunteer development, and staff supervision. You will be accountable for delivering exceptional and outstanding programs and services to YMCA members, volunteers, and participants in partnership with a larger team. You will be a vital member of the YMCA leadership staff and a highly visible representative of the YMCA mission and core values and are accountable for knowing and properly executing all YMCA policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • One or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Previous experience in fitness, group exercise, personal training, or other related fields.
  • CPR and First Aid certification and accredited industry certifications may be required or obtained required within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to perform all necessary rescue and survival skills and all lifeguard prerequisite skills.
  • Able to communicate verbally with good voice projection and clarity.
  • Basic computer literacy and related technology are required for communication, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Ability to constantly and quickly move to various locations in and around the entire facility
  • Be able to lift 25 pounds or more.
  • Physically perform all CPR and First Aid skills and/or assist as needed in emergency situations
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Bend or stoop to reach various height levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in kinesiology, social services, business, or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates scheduling of all wellness staff
  • Continually ensures that Wellness staff maintain required certifications and are aware of the expiration dates of their current certifications.
  • The ability to assist in or lead all required Wellness staff training and meetings.
  • Performs and documents drop drills and Wellness quick checks for the Wellness team as needed.
  • Coordinates scheduling of Wellness programming as needed and have fun developing and implementing new Wellness programs.
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, and mentoring all direct reports and ensuring alignment with the organization's personnel policy and HR practices within their scope of responsibility through quarterly check-ins and annual reviews with the service line/department team
  • Serves as a group exercise instructor and wellness floor staff as needed.
  • Performs daily office work as needed, such as filing, copying, record keeping, and payroll completion.
  • Ensures that all necessary paperwork and forms are available to and accurately completed by the Wellness staff.
  • Assists or be able to lead efforts in recruiting, orientation, and on-site training of new staff.
  • Abides by the YMCA of WNC Association Manual and/or department variation and ensures new staff understands and abides, as well.
  • Knows and understands all YMCA of WNC Wellness policies and procedures; ensures that all procedures are followed and policies are consistently enforced.
  • Always champions the YMCA culture, continually provides outstanding customer service, and strives to develop committed participants, staff, and volunteers.
  • Lead by example and work collaboratively with fellow YMCA Wellness staff.
  • Initiates communication with Wellness leadership as necessary concerning program problems, personnel conflicts, and member concerns.
  • Acts as a role model for other staff in terms of preparedness, reactiveness, and performance.
  • Continuously exhibit honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, reliability, flexibility, maturity, and good decision-making skills.
  • Performs all other duties as required by Wellness leadership.

  • Implements a results-based management approach and ensures service line/department is actively working towards association-level objectives by assessing progress towards identified.
  • goals/KPIs, provides ongoing coaching and feedback, and discusses development opportunities
  • Oversees the budgeting process within their service line/department, ensuring that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives.
  • Identifies growth opportunities, conducts forecasting regularly and corrects financial deficiencies on a timely basis through monthly variance reports with organizational leaders, and implements action plans to meet budgeted financial targets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
