About The Position

The Medical Assistant will assist in the delivery of health care and patient care management in a clinical capacity. The daily responsibilities of the position are based solely on the needs of the practice at any given time.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program or accredited Nursing Program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide directly and through delegation patient care for facility clients.
  • Maintain knowledge of normal/abnormal parameters that identify clients at risk.
  • Provide patient care in accordance to standards and guidelines.
  • Respond to telephone calls and triage appropriately.
  • Provide patient with reassurance, accurate teaching and direction.
  • Ensure efficient delivery of healthcare services throughout the duration of the patient visit.
  • Ensure that medical records are completed, accurate and updated.
  • Initiate patient contact and prepare patient for examination.
  • Obtain vital signs, weight, age, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiratory, history and chief complaint.
  • Observe patients with abnormal signs and symptoms, communicate their condition to the physician and document the same in the medical record.
  • Ensure patient understanding of physician instruction upon discharge.
  • Document patients medical record entries and document charge information into electronic medical record for billing.
  • Assist with testing and treatment procedures under the Physicians supervision.
  • Assist physician in applying splints and dressings.
  • Perform and follow through in all indicated orders from physician.
  • Assist with sample medications and sample medication logs.
  • Arrange and administer any necessary patient testing or admission.
  • Obtain appropriate referrals required.
  • Retrieve test results as needed and notify patient.
  • Assist physician in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals.
  • Obtain appropriate consents before all invasive procedures or immunizations are performed.
  • Distribute patient education materials as directed.
  • Assist in patient instruction and ascertain patient understanding regarding treatment and medication usage.
  • Perform laboratory tests and treatments as prescribed.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory log.
  • Ensure all patient care areas, equipment and materials are appropriately stocked and maintained.
  • Maintain and organize adequate supply of patient education materials.
  • Order and maintain required supplies and equipment for clinical care areas ensuring exam rooms are stocked appropriately.
  • Keep exam rooms clean, free of waste and organized in accordance with cleaning protocol.
  • Ensure that instruments are sterile and equipment is in working order.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
