The ultimate goal of the Lower Division Wellness and Movement (WAM) program is to have students become physically literate, life-long movement explorers. WAM lessons are designed to create purposeful and meaningful opportunities for movement exploration, creative expression, and close collaboration, while simultaneously teaching science, math, reading, writing, anatomy/physiology, and social emotional skills. Individual, partner and team activities incorporate elements of choice, allow students to set their own goals, build confidence, foster personal growth, encourage communication and allow students to build resilience. To promote the mind-body connection, students are often challenged to think deeply about the topics being discussed in class, both before and after engaging in a movement experience. Students share their learnings in individual and group projects, written assignments and class discussions. In this role you will: Lead project-based wellness and movement classes Collaborate intensively with colleagues across the division and within the WAM team to develop innovative curricula and continually deepen student learning Ensure that students achieve key learning outcomes, targeting instruction thoughtfully to address individual needs Build a robust learning atmosphere that leads students to feel part of a rigorous and joyful learning community Inspire trust and confidence among parents and families
